I've seen pictures of Mitch's bike and I've seen it in person. Pictures cannot do it justice. There are nuances in the paint that a lens can't pick up.

You are probably right, but one can try. HD's always seem to look better in person.

I agree on the a one-color versus two; and of the better choices for the regular Ultra's versus the Limited's.

Some day I would like to sit in the room where these people make the billion dollar decision on the color choices.

I would imagine they use a color specialist company to help determine the popular colors in a given year (I know Pantone provides their opinion on colors for each year, but do not know how worthy their thoughts are). Personally, this year I would have fired who ever they used.

I would think they would do surveys of riders to see... but who knows.

BMW is worse. They have different shades of grey and silver. I feel like sending their designers and executives a playdough set and ecstasy.

I'm not sure of the custom color cost in 2014. In 2012, MSRP on a vivid black FLHTK was $23,799, two tone was $24,814, and Tequila Sunrise was $25,014. A difference of $1,215. I've seen other custom paints on the dealer floor hike the price up by $2,000 that aren't in the HD color lineup. They were painted by a custom shop in New Orleans. I like a black bike, only when it's clean. I'm content with my choice to pay twelve hundred more for the Tequila Sunrise. Depending on the lighting conditions, the color is never the same.

I think that's the case on many of their colors. My new one is very much that way; which is why I did not like any of the pictures I took, or have seen (including HD's website pics). Not a single one looks like the bike in person. Not even close.

Even my Bronze Nomad appeared different in person. On film it looked black. Most people assumed it was. However, in the sun the bronze color would shine through. It was a great color, but still too dark to keep it looking somewhat clean.

Gibby and I discussed colors for quite some time and he mentioned he saw the colors I got. I had not seen them at the time; but did a week later at a dealer. I was amazed at the difference in person.

I believe, as CJ mentioned, it is the depth of their paint that is not reproduced well by a camera. Mitch, I know your color never appears in pictures as it does in person.

It was tough deciding between the Tequila Sunrise and the Ember Red Glow / Merlot. The Deep Purple was another limited run custom color but I didn't care for the yellow flames. There are quite a few of those down here with the Tigers colors being purple and gold. The Ember/Merlot was a close second. I'd bet there's easily 100 or more of those just in the Baton Rouge / Lafayette area. The 5 mills of clear make all of them easy to look at.

My favorite is the Harley Orange and Black. I know it is not a favorite of many -- probably a majority; but I have always liked it. They only use the color once in a while though.

I think I like it because it reminds me of a Rally Nova I bought in high-school with money I made. It was orange and black. Loved that car. Didn't own it for too long though... We won't get into that...
