I DONT like the oil "sight glass"!
My old eyes just cant deal with the sight glass for checking oil. And to make it worse, you gotta get on the ground like a pretzel to see it.
Even with a light I cant tell whats goin on, very difficult, at least for me. I would much rather have a simple dipstick for checking oil! Do they make a dipstick for the Nomad? If not, someone needs to figure something out! I dont see why a dipstick coulndt be rigged up somehow? If they sell one?, i would gladly buy one!

There is no dip stick available, the clutch is right below the filler hole. Sometimes a flashlight helps see the oil through the glass a lot easier.

Mechanics mirror works great, all my bikes are with the site glass, never have to bend down to see it.

+1, that's what I use. Roll it out into the sunlight, stand it up and view with a mechanic's mirror.

the 1700's do have a dipstick but it is still not easy to check as you have to have the
bike straight up and level to get an accurate reading.why they couldn't have calibrated it to read right whike leaning on the kickstand is beyond me.

With the sight glass, I found the mechanics mirror to be the easiest and safest way to check it.

I replaced the dipstick on my HD with an electronic oil level indicator. Just push a button to get the level read out. Used a mirror when I had my Nomad.

Another vote for the mechanics mirror. I keep one in my saddlebag and it works fine.

you can calibrate it. Check it level then check it on the side stand and scribe a mark on it. Presto........it's calibrated.

X 2. I threw one in the registration pouch as soon as I bought the bike. Sight glass is still a dumb idea though.

Been using the extension mirror ever since Ells told me about it a couple of years ago. I am sure going to miss Ells.
