I still think it's great and a leap in the right direction for Kawasaki.

Looks like some more options are available too:
"Kawasaki offers a large number of optional accessories, including an iPod conector, XM radio, standard gel seat, dual gel saddle, solo seat, heated solo seat, rider backrest, quick-release backrest, passenger floorboard kit, saddlebag liners, auxiliary lamps, DC power sockets, GPS mount, billet handlebar clamps, engine cover trim, saddlebag top rails, custom cover and more. See your Kawasaki dealer for more information"

I like the looks. Interesting offering from Kawasaki, but if I were buying a bike right now, I would still be looking at the Cross Country from Victory.

Trip just looked at it in person about 1 hour ago. Says he likes the look and will post pictures. It does have pre 2009 clam shell bags. I haven't looked yet but it may be on Kawasaki's website. The Voyager remains unchanged from last year. Still has the top opening bags.

It is on the kawasaki site now. The voyager and nomad is unchanged, just new colors for 2011.

Web site says the Vaquero has top opening bags. Can't imagine that windshield is sufficient for touring. Sure won't stop much rain. And it doesn't look like ABS is an option.

1700 Special edition - The "Vaquero"

OK guys..... just got logged in to report after seeing the unveiling of the Kawasaki lineup first hand here in Vegas.

To start things off, if you are into watercraft, Kawa has introduced a jetski for 2011 that has a 300 HP engine..... I said 300 HP! That's as much HP as my corvette for God's sake.

Introduced for the first time this year is a new Ninja that is a sharp looking sport bike.

But, the actual bike to steal the show was the new Vaquero... a Vulcan with side opening hard bags (I guess our complaining was heard by the Kawa marketing department). I've looked long and hard at this bike and like it. It's got a 1700 twin that's blacked out. Kawa has gone back to not only the side opening bags, but the same mufflers used on the 2005-2008. The bike can be configured for solo riding and has an easily detachable sissy bar for 2-up riding.

Kawa also has a Special Operations Department now that can provide a Voyager, Nomad or Vaquero decked out the way you want. I saw a Voyager on the showroom floor that was dull gray with orange seat, and windshield. Also saw a gray one with yellow seats and yellow riding lights. I've got pics from all this but can't upload them because I forgot my adaptor. So, I'll upload all of the pics and video I shot in the unveiling when I get back Thursday.

They have different height windshields available as accessories. A short shield like that is fine for around town, but for touring a big shield is much nicer.

Somewhere in the Vaquero overview it mentions the side opening bags.

I think this is a winner and certainly a step in the right direction.

The Vaquero is a goofy name, but I guess they wanted to stick with the "V" theme. That's a nice looking bike and I can't wait to see one in person. I hope they will have a tourpack option for it.

I would consider this over the Victory for the simple fact that is is water cooled and the Vic is not.

According to the foreign press I read, they said it didn't have the ETC.

A little pricey considering the voyager isn't much more.
