Gas Price

Gas is only $2.58 a gallon at the cheap station, Loaf and Jug and Cosco sells it for $2.62 a gal. Conoco is $2.69 I'm sure it will go up when the weather turns warm.

Here on the west coast I saw $1.20 a Ltr. today. Since the dollar is at par that's close to $4.80 a gallon. In Sumas WA where the cabin is, it's $3.12 a gallon. Guess where I fill up every chance I get???

Just curious, how much difference does it make on the bike if you're running 10% ethanol vs. pure gas? I have always got my gas at Murphy because they are usually the cheapest around unless I'm somewhere and they don't have one. Just want to know it the ehanol is a bad thing for bikes or not... I know it's bad for older boat motors just hadn't heard anything till now regarding bikes...

Empirically
1. A 3% drop in mileage. (10% mix)
2. A solvent and will tend to clean the fuel system.

After that it's all speculation.

10% will cause bike to run hotter and in small engines (lawnmowers and such) will cause pistons to seize up Have a friend who works on small engines his business has tripled on acct of the 10% it will eat up rubber gaskets if you have a older bike ( I have a 1985 BMW ) you need to use stabuilt marine (blue) it lubes or use marvel mystery oil

Tom,

Alcohol actually runs cooler than straight gas. Can't argue about old gaskets and rubber being disovled.

Less BTUs per pound = less heat, less power & less mileage. It's become the new Govt. land bank program.

Fuel mileage with ethanol can vary quite a bit. I had one car that ran better on it and one that didn't care and one that didn't like it a bit. My bike seems to do good on ethanol blends. The biggest problem with most vehicles is that they aren't designed with ethanol as the major fuel. It is an after thought.

As far as the cooling, yes less BTU's but to compensate that for HP you dump more into the engine. Thus, more fluid, more cooling action. Some dirt track racers have been running alcohol and they really hate it on cool nights. Its a fine line between running too cool and too hot.

Gas Price

Don't you find that the newspapers claim it's about the availability of fuel that drives the prices among the many other excuses. If not in your area, that's what they said here in RI before the holidays were closing in. Now all of a sudden it was reported there's plenty of fuel. I guess that didn't hold as an excuse to long. As was said it's the holidays (CNC, Ward "Merry Christmas"), where the gas companies always gouge the consumer. I got so ticked off I wrote a letter to the editor of the local newspaper. Recently it was reported NO shortage. What happened to change that? Even if it was true it's an oil company created shortage like when the companies had millions of gallons sitting off the coast in tankers during the big rise in prices, and waiting till the prices went up.

Maybe the investigative reporters who talk about things like someone owing a couple of thousand dollars in taxes as the big story, turn to a true story that effects us all in ways such as how all the oil companies manipulate the gas prices. Or maybe how the CEO's are making ridiculous salaries and benefits as well as the companies also making record profits. :( :(
