Newbie with some questions...

Gretings everyone and thanks for having me on board the forum!

My name is Daryl and I just purchased a new 06 Nomad (all black, the fastest color I'm told!). I take delivery on/around 10/19 and I can't wait to go cruisin' around on that baby!

I would like to throw out a couple of questions, and forgive me if these have been beaten to death already... (indluge me!)

1. During my test ride I noticed two things of concern: (a) the engine seems to run real HOT and I felt it on my legs more than my current bike, a 06 Suzuki Boulevard 805cc cruiser; and (b) I didn't ride the arse off the bike during the test ride, but I noticed a "ratcheting" kind of feel in the tranny during soft, subtle downshifts when coming to a stop.

Any thoughts/remedies, etc on either/both of these questions?

And on the "plus" side, one last question:
I'm having the dealership install V&H Baggers and the PCIII (along with the luggage rack, OEM lightbar and visors). They said an aftermarket air intake may not be necessary since the stock unit breathes pretty well. Is this accurate? Seems a bit odd to not upgrade the air intake when upgrading the fuel processor and exhaust outlet. Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions???

Stock intake is the biggest power restrictor on the bike. Dealer is wrong. If adding exhaust and looking for more power you should add a modified intake system absolutely. This is prior to installing the PCIII otherwise you'll have to re program the unit when you change the intake. Changing the intake will dramatically change the way the bike runs along with the V&H exhaust.

Yes they run real hot. Not sure about the "ratcheting" in shifting. Might just be different from your old ride?

Green/Silver is the fastest version of Nomads.

Where you from? I'm in CT and mine doesn't run all that hot. At least not compared to the Harley I ride at work.

Daryl welcome, The Nomads do run hot on the legs, especially in the heat of summer. Have not noticed it now ever since the weather cooled off though.

Blowndodge is correct about the PCIII, you don't need it with just a change out of the pipes. Dealer is just trying to sell a PC. Put the pipes on, save the money for the Power Commander and then decide if want to go any further.

I don't know if I agree that the intake is the biggest restrictor on the bike. I did the Caddman mod and added a Fi2000 to mine with stock pipes (waiting for the Cobra true duals) and it did very little for performance. I put on the pipes (which eliminated the goat belly), and it was like a whole new bike. Big perfomance increase!

Welcome to KawaNOW Daryl. Make yourself at home. I've never noticed any real heat coming out on my legs, but I sure wish I had some heat when I was freezing in Utah last week.

The guy I was riding with had a new GoldWing and his feet and hands were toasty. LOL.

I have gotten the "ratcheting" a couple of times when I have downshifted lackadaisically. Thats the problem - dont do soft, subtle downshifts. Pull the clutch in, confidently downshift and dont be afraid to let the clutch out. You will find the clutch to be very smooth and you will never get another rachet. I'm guessing it is the gears grinding or its in between gears if thats possible. The two times it happened to me I was going from 2nd to 1st and my N light came on and I heard a grinding sound. Both times I was barely pressing on the shift lever.
