Well when I roll off the throttle until closed all the way, while in 3rd gear at lets say 3000 rpm, I get that beautiful musical backdraw burble that open exhaust bikes are supposed to make, but if I continue to coast withnthe throttle fully closed when it hits about 2100 to 1900 rpm the burble slows down and the pipe lets out a pop like if you farted in a coffee can, deep pop, not a loud high pitch pop like a fire crackerr. Best I can describe it.. its not a series of pops like whe a bike is ina serious lean condition. I have had that before when I was rejetting my 1500 and those pops came from the intake.

I'm running out of ideas then... Eliminating the louder pops seems to me to be a combination of things...

I have washers behind the exhaust acorn nuts, I ran a bead of Threebond 1211 around the throttle body before installing Chuckster's backing plate, and my idle is set to +50 or +100 (I forget which). The remaining quiet burble and very rare louder pop is no problem whatsoever.

I've also done my own DIY version of Ray's mod on my last 6 sets of grips over two bikes. It's a "must do" mod for the Voyager, IMHO.

And I can't really comment on your gas... It's different down here. We have a choice of 91 or 95 Octane, and until I installed the EJK I had to use 95. Now I can use 91. Refining standards are high here as well, so there's no appreciable difference in the gas between dealers anywhere in the country.

If the bike continues to behave the way it did today, I think I can definitely deal with it especially since I fou d the nuances with the throttle and shifts to avoid any popping.

I just keep thinking... If I lived so close to Ray myself, and knew the way to his shop like you do (didn't you visit for your grips?)... I'd be down there in a heartbeat asking for him to tune it for me?

Peg,
that was the point of buying the EJK, so I could tune it myself. I did not want to shell out $300 for a PCV then have to pay another $350 for dyno tuning, dont get me wrong Ray is a great guy and I am lucky to have him nearby if I needed anything I did not trust my dealership to fix, outside of warranty stuff, the bike is new. And its not about being cheap as some would elude to on this forum, I just bought the bike and already dropped near $1900 in add ons.

With a little time and patience I am sure I can find a solution, but seriously she rode great yesterday with minimal if any decel pop, I think running 87 octane and a little tweak on the EJK I should be able to eliminate it totally. If not screw it, I will turn up the music and just. Enjoy the ride.

Ken, my setting are
Green 4
Yellow 5
Red 1.5
Gr/Blue .5
Yell/Blu 2.5
Red/Blu 3.5

I put Velcro on the tank bib so I can change on the fly but with these settings it's been under the seat for a while.. Don't over think the popping and go crazy with it because it does come back and piss you off.. Just ride it and enjoy. I've done everything and spent a ton of money ridding the popping and the EJK and 87 octane is the best results.. The weather has a lot to do with these problems caused by the ECU..

Thanks Jase. I agree and think I am over thinking it. Your settings might be a touch too rich for me only because I am not running a full open Air Intake. I will give it a shot though. I am going out later, its sunny and about 70 degrees right now. So lets see how she performs. I need to burn off this 93 octane gas.

The 1700 is like the first gen ZX-14'S. they both can have an occurrence of a "one pop/bang" on decel, the ZX14'S at 3500rpm and the 1700's at that 2000rpm area. It is not something that can always be eliminated as it is in the writing of the code in the ecu. Every skoot is different, some never have this happen, mine does it every now and then.

If you can minimize it with tuning(without making the a/f ratio wrong for other aspects of operation) and throttle manipulation, that may be the best you can get with that tuning unit.

It would appear that changing the mufflers is the culprit. My 2010 with stock mufflers, a Cobra Powerpro and Chucksters intake, never popped on decel.
If it did I never heard it.

Eureka... looks like she is officially dialed in. I made 2 small incremental changes in cruise mode fuel and acceleration mode. Bike ran like a champ. I changed my throttle control just a little when down shifting and not a single stinking pop, just a nice backdraw burble. Bike just pulled like a freight train on up shifts and idle was perfect. While cruising the temp stayed at the hash under half way. So far so good. I leaving it the way it is and not screwing with it any more. Now I just need my replacement muffler from V&H so it will look as good as it is running.

I was running the 93. Had to burn what was in the tank by the time I got home the fuel light was on, I filled it with 87, so now I need to see what happens when I get the bike out again. Probably not this weekend though, the wife was already giving me the stink eye when I mentioned it.
