Harley guys swap out the dual front calipers (2 or 4 piston) with 6 piston calipers when they go to a single front brake (generally with a bigger wheel). Their bikes weigh as much as ours do and I've never heard of any brake complaints. On the other hand, I wouldn't do it just on principle.

A lot of guys on the Harley forums install a larger front wheel on the touring models. It looks especially good on a Road Glide, and many of them ask about removing one of the calipers/rotors. The general thought is that if they remove one side of the front brakes, which provide the majority of the stopping power, they replace the remaining caliper with a larger caliper to add more braking surface area to compensate for the loss of half their front braking potential. I'm sure it's easier done on a Harley because parts are readily available. But I would think real hard before I removed half of the braking capability of an 800 or 900 pound touring bike. They have dual calipers for a reason. Maybe for a bar hopper it wouldn't matter, but riding two-up loaded with gear, you want all the braking power you can get at times.

Just something to chew on.

Well just joined this forum and was searching to see how many Nomads had custom front wheels and found this post, funny since I just bought this bike last weekend. Already fabbed up brackets to add the fender back on and am working on upgrading the front rotor/disc setup or going back to the dual setup. Also got some other changes in the works.

Here is what it looks like now...

Would love to here mopre about how he adapted the wheel with the one rotor as well as with two rotors . Trying to go to a 21" rim as well.

From what the PO told me, he sent his wheel and rotors to SMT and had them fabricate the new wheel, hub, rotor and spacers and they shipped it all back to him. I'm going to try and contact them to see if they can make me a matching rotor for the other side and the needed spacers.

SMT site says they scan in the wheels that they get so they may already have the Nomad information off of this wheel project in their files. If so they could make any wheel you wanted to fit and send it to you. I can tell you that the quality is top notch on their wheels.
