Coolant change

I picked up 3 qts of silicate-free Honda Pro-Cool yesterday. I'm over 20,000 miles and my Nomad will be 19 months old on November 4th. Is now the time to change out the coolant or should I wait until 25,000 miles? Also, how vital is it to run the 50/50 mixture of vinegar and distilled water for a flush and is it really necessary to pull the fan control unit for cleaning as Gadget states on his site?

You can do all that Mitch but your coolant nor Nomad is old enough to be really concerned with "build up" in the cooling system. Just flush it completely....

My plans were to just drain everything well and refill. I will pull the fuel tank instead of just moving it back in order to check all of the hose clamps for tightness. While the tank is off I will also run a #8 wire from the battery to the headlight bucket and install a fuse block there for future accessories. Thanks Brad.

A flush with distilled water might be nice... Don't use mineral water from the fawcett though...

Over spring/summer I ran a de-humidifier and saved out some water of thin air, for a flush. Maybe you can still get this water from somewhere?????

Otherwise just dump and fill... 98% of contaminates will go out that way anyhow.

I have to do mine around now too, and came by a Turbo Coolant free of everything and it is in a 1 gallon jug requiring a mix with water, so I will mix it with the water I made. Umm that is DISTILLED water...

I know better than to leave any opening for some of you guys

De-ionized water is not a problem. We have a demineralizer over here at the plant which supplies DI water to our boilers. There is absolutely nothing in this water after it leaves the Demin. Conductivity is near zero. Works real good in a bug sprayer for spot free rinsing the car or bike.

Mitch, you never got an answer about the fan. I was wondering about that myself.

Probably not very important Gene. One of the "gearheads" would have jumped all over it if it was very critical. The exterior of my fan and radiator are as clean as the day I purchased my bike.

If the system is on time and not full of mung, the fan switch should be clean enough to not bother removing. If you are 5 years over due then it might be worth cleaning the miung, crudlings, and assorted varmits off the unit itself.
