A ride with my brother.mk11

My young brother and i went for a ride a couple of day's ago,he's got the prettiest, and probably one of the fastest Z1000's around, this is the route we ended up taking, slowly https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Bl...2d50.758531!3e

We were only 25m into the ride as we crossed the medieval stone Fordingbridge, and this pub was right there with the smell of food wafting out at us,my brother can eat the arsehole out of the mother in law,so we stopped for while. http://www.georgeatfordingbridge.co.uk/

There is an old country manor house at Cranbourne that has turned the stable yard into a classic bike renovation business, the bloke's there were only too willing to drop what they were doing and show us around, but not before they made us coffee. http://www.bugad.com/index.php

Next stop was Blandford Forum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blandford_Forum

Then on to Stalbridge to see a mate of my brother. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalbridge

We rode past Cerne Abbas and saw this bloke. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerne_Abbas_Giant

A stop in Dorchester for a coffee and a walkabout. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorchester,_Dorset

Then on to the deserted village of Tyneham. The village was evacuated during WW2 along with many other village's along the Dorset coast, so that the allied troop's could train in secret at Slapton sand's for the coming D,Day landing's, It is still in military hand's and can only be visited at certain time's of the year, due to it being in the middle of a live fire training ground. http://www.tynehamopc.org.uk/

This should be of interest to any American or Canadian, who had family stationed over here during WW2.

The cover up at Slapton. http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk...tion_tiger.htm

Another version from those that were there. http://www.dorsetlife.co.uk/2009/05/...land-cover-up/

Just up the road is Kimmeridge, where we stopped for lunch at Clavell's cafe http://www.clavellscafe.co.uk/

Then a ride through some beautiful little village's to Studland, where we got the chain ferry across the bay to Sandbank's,one of the most expensive place's in the world to live
http://www.bbc.co.uk/staticarchive/0...a989ea9da1.jpg

We were about ready for a few pint's by the time we got back to my local.

Thanks Mick. After the chewing you just gave HwyRider I'm going to take at least a week to read it. I'll let you know what I think of it then.

At least you stopped in Dorchester for coffee. Here's a geography lesson for you Mick.

According to the wikipedia link that you provided Weymouth is 8 miles south from Dorchester. Here in MA Weymouth is also 8 miles south of Dorchester.

A lot of the place name's were given by the people who left England to start a new life over there, they named their new home's after the place's they left behind to give it some familiarity. Some of the older families in those town's will still have ties with the town's and village's back here. That is a nice touch that both town's are the same geographically though. West country people over here are,or were, considered to be thick country bumkin's who grew a vegetable called a swede, drank shitload's of cider, and danced around apple tree's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wassailing

The picture in the Dorchester wikipedia link that you provided is the old Walter Baker chocolate mill.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Baker_%26_Company

It was converted to condos years ago. When I was a kid we would walk by there and the chocolate smell was always in the air.

Sounds like a great ride Mick. I found the links to the Operation Tiger fiasco to be of great interest. I was aware of it but had never heard/seen it described in such detail. The military often makes mistakes, some quite serious.
