more vibration ???

16000 on 07 nomad, just replaced rear ct with another ct. swingarm service dun, final drive , oil change.
seems i have a lil more vibration than normal, it quits when clutch pulled in, but on throttle and cruising, i can feel it. no noise associate with it. i do have my tire at 38 psi now, just to put some miles on new tire, but will be dropping it to 30 psi today, and see if there is any difference. any thoughts ???? thanks

Did you have 16000 miles on the ct, or less than that?

In all gears or at least 3rd 4th and 5th? All at cruise for that gear?

New swing arm seals? The U joint checked out good? All splines on the final drive to wheel and both ends of the drive shaft fot molly lube and the swing arm spacers long bolt were all greased the swing arm bearings and spacres were checked out and good?

The long bolt and axel are tight?

The driveshaft spline to bevel gear spline has the pin locking the 2 together?

Did you inspect the bevel gear spline and try to wiggle it any? up / down side to side? Was the bevel gear spline dry and maybe blue?

Same deal for the wheel, was the wheel hub dry of molly grease and blue?

everything checked out mac, lubed and checked everything. no slop in swingarm. will check again in lower gears, but ya i could feel it at cruising speed.
prairie cruiser, no, only got 11000 on that ct, since i over inflated when going to sturgis last year and wore out center prematurely.

I would pay extra and detailed attention to the bevel gear bearing. What bugs me is this goes away in neutral when you coast. If it didn't i would simply expect the tire is out of ballance.

What this might be beats me. I might be the engine dampers too, but i can't know that.
For that matter it might be engine mounts. In the 1500 models the engine mounts some times became loose, and the result was vibs under power.

I have never heard of a 1600 with that problem. Easy to check though.

No doubt, other guys here, good, will have ideas what to look for.

ok, mac, when i took final drive off, i got a small amount of oil that came out of there, from the smell im saying its gear oil. not alot but there was some. now that i have a few miles on, may pull rear tire and final drive again and check to see if more is present.

If its gear oil from the final drive it means the seal is going bad. Should not cause the vibration you describe ?

Once, I noticed some vibration after changing a tire. I had tighten the rear axle bolt to the required torque. It seemed awful tight to me. I loosened the axle nut and retightened it to where it felt good to me. Vibration seemed to go away and the bike rode fine. Might try loosening yours. Of course if your wheel falls off, I did not write all of this. :)

That was kinda my thought. Perhaps the new tire is not balanced perfectly.

Not sure why you dropped the final drive unit, it;s the other end of the drive shaft where the bevel gear bearing is and the bevel gear. In any case did you try and wiggle the final drive spline side to side and up and down. It should not budge, just turn and only turn. 0 lash side to side or up and down. Same goes for the bevel gear.

I kinda feel bad since I didn't ask for this, but if i thought it would work I sure would have.

2 table spoons of oil there mixed in with moly lube can be typical. More or less there is gonna be. but more than that indicates a bad seal and or a bad final drive, making the seal leak.

O lash

My 1500 did the same thing, so does this 1600 I just put in.

I was concerned about it until I rode acouple new bikes in Daytona at Bike Week.

They vibrated as much or more.

My thought is that after a new tire, or any other change, we look to hard and imagine things are worse than they are.

Ride it a few hundred miles and I bet you'll not notice it so much.

i dropped the final drive unit for two reasons. 1 being it is easier getting new tire up and into rear end. 2 wanted to make sure everything was still lubed around the gears there. was much less than 2 tablespoons, more like 1 teaspoon . i dropped the rear air down to 30 psi, took it for a ride and didnt seem that bad. dragonchaser, you may be onto something, sometimes i think a person looks for things that are outta whack or worse than they are. but will definately monitor it and try to see if it gets any better or worse.
