Spilled Diesel on Road

The road conditions were Perfect, time of day about 8 am, Mentally in a Super Good Frame of Mind.

Leaving the freeway to make a left hand turn, traffic was on the left and right side, front and back. Traffic was moving 2 lanes turning left and one lane on my right making a right turn.

I am watching cars, traffic light, road when I see something on the rough surface road. Since the ramp is at a 15 degree slope and I am again making the left hand turn from the center lane. And the turn is a true 90 degree left hand I brake just a little. That's when my Nomad Rear went out from underneath me.

All in one second I saw myself crashing, Not sure how this happened but as the bike was sliding sideways I was able to bring it back up and make the 90 degree left hand turn going thru all the traffic, not laying down and or scraping the bike.

This all happened in June and for sure I am still uneasy about the event. I went back to the area and checked the surface conditions again, it was a rough asphalt surface but not a loose gravel type all I can say is perfect for traction. But there was spilled diesel all over and blended in the the hot asphalt surface. While rolling it had coated the tires I guess and then when braking , it made perfect for what happened. So the reason I am posting this is because of MY driver Error which could have caused me serious and other passenger car passengers injuries. =r=

Glad you were able to right the bike with no damage to you or the bike. Tried to open the picture link but it wouldn't open.

I am glad it worked out for you. But, I don't see how you made an "error"??? It looks like you were a victim of circumstances - spilled diesel.

Picture was of a yellow left turn sign, just wanted to show a true 90 degree turn. I have to say carelessly on my part for after seeing the discoloration On the road & not taking immediate evassive action. =r=

Diesel is slippery as hell (as you found out). I used to drive a truck and ended up sideways in the middle of the road (with light traffic, thank God) after I drove through a diesel spill. It blends in to the roadway too well. Maybe they should add a neon orange to it. :)

I guess you have been riding for awhile to make the "save" and not drop the bike, good move. Too many riders start with a 600lb.+ first bike and lose it on conditions like that. Do they call that the 'Texas Two Step" down your way?

I believe we all call this "Scaring the Devil Out of You" and just a rookie of only 6 years of motorcycle riding. The suggestions from me would be ride safe. =r=

As a FF, I can say that we put down the absorbent and if really bad do a wash down but the stuff that leaks from cars/trucks when they pop open is VERY slick. I'm always on the lookout for red plastic and cat litter when riding. Sounds like you dodged one. Check your bell because it might be full...
