I have a 2004 Honda Shadow Sabre, which I like a lot. There are a couple of things about it that bug me. That is the reason I am on this Kawasaki Forum. I got interested in the Nomad and wanted to investigate it a bit. I just hope it is nothing like at Yamaha RSV. That is the only bike that has every caused fear in me. It was so heavy and wobbly when coming to a stop. I want a tourer that has more room, comfort, and touring ability 2-up than the Shadow has. I don't like heavy bikes. So this is a concern I have as well. I hope to get the answers I want here.

While I am not as experienced with the Nomad as some of the others on this forum, I am sure that you will get all the answers that you seek. However, I would suggest that you be a little more specific with your quesitons. What do you want to know about the Nomad?

Let me be the first Canadian to welcome you to KawaNOW. I don't have the history with motorcycles like some of the people here, but I have had a few bikes. Small 650 Yamaha, bigger 1000 Yamaha Virago, bigger 1300 Yamaha Venture, and now have the '06 1600 Kawasaki Nomad. I've just about finished modifying it to what I want now. I have a fairing going on come spring. I am totally happy with the Nomad and think it's one of the best bikes I've ever rode. The center of gravity is great and other than a small low speed wobble, that I understand is fixable, it's by far my favorite bike so far. I can see myself owning this forever. There should be a lot of guys willing to give you their thoughts. Get the specific questions posted and then just wait for the responses.

Welcome from Ontario. I don't consider the Nomad top heavy, but what full size tourer isn't, there is a heavy feel to it during low speed parking lot maneuvers but nothing unbearable. Once underway in normal stop and go traffic I don't find it an issue at all, at highway speeds the bike is an absolute pleasure to go down the road on.
Having ridden a good selection of bikes over the years, I found that its a compromise between of things between the brands available. I like the handling of the Harley Ultra better during the low speed stuff, it has a lighter feel to it. My brothers RS1200 BMW which is a sport tourer feels like a dirt bike with a rocket engine in it, very nimble and powerfull at all speeds, but not as comfortable after a few hours in the saddle. Gold Wings are getting heavier than the older ones but have every creature comfort known installed. A lot of us go through phases in life where our styles and needs change and we buy our bikes accordingly. For me, I like the V twins at this stage and who knows what the future will bring. Do your research, ask questions, and try to test the bike your interested in.

Welcome from Louisiana. I'm very comfortable on my Nomad but can only compare it to an HD Ultra Classic. I test rode a standard Ultra and the 110 Screaming Eagle after owning my Nomad for nearly a year. Both were more nimble at parking lot speeds and more powerful on the lower and upper ends than the Nomad but I didn't feel as comfortable on either as I am on my Nomad. The Nomad price is much more comfortable to deal with also. Both are great bikes.

Welcome from the great Pacific NW. You will find the Nomad to be an exceptionally comfortable ride. I find it has more room to stretch out than any other model I have rode or sat on (pre-'09). With a few modifications such as an aftermarket seat, handlebar risers and maybe even a tour pack, I don't think you could find a better V-Twin touring bike...especially in it's price range!
With two-up riding and a full load of gear, the Nomad may seem a bit underpowered for the CC's, but a fuel processor and/or air intake mod will definitely cure that! I am really happy with my 2008 model and enjoy the heck out of riding it for multi-day rides all over the place. I have ridden it in 8 western states and one Canadian Province. My longest day in the saddle was 640 miles from Butte, MT to Everett, WA. The Nomad is a winner....try to test ride one if you get the chance, you will see what we mean!
