Planning route to Rally

Today we went to devils tower and took the short walk around. We watched the crazy climbers do their thing from the comfort of the trail. That is something that is not on my bucket list. We had a pleasant ride across 24, down 385, to Spearfish canyon and Nemo road into Rapid City. Tomorrow we should get an oil change in the morning and then ride Iron Mountain road to Mt. Rushmore.

Oil change took way too long. Didn't get to do much riding until nearly 1:00. Oh well, we went as planned - which was a pretty relaxed day anyway. We rode the Playhouse Road to Iron Mountain Road. (Highly recommended even with a bit of traffic.) Got some great views of Rushmore and had already seen it before, so decided to try Jewel Cave instead. Tried calling to get tour time, but they never answered the phone. Rode down there and ended up with tickets for tomorrow afternoon.
Tomorrow, we will do Custer State park, and Jewel cave, then spend the night in Hot Springs.

Went through the Custer loop and saw the bison herd. Most were far away in the field, but 4 were near the road. Two crossed and then we rode through with two on each side. Should have a bit of video to post. Needles was awesome. Had good food today at Sage Creek grille in Custer and The Vault in Hot Springs. Tomorrow we're going to run by the mammoth site in Hot Springs (Ann really loves this kind of stuff), and then Carhenge and across 2 towards Grand Island.

May get home on Thursday, but maybe Friday. Have been requested that we stop by Manhattan, KS to visit our youngest son at college.

Damn...I wish I would have told you about the little purple pie place in Custer...you know the one. It is fantastic!

We saw it (how could you miss it?) Trying to keep the number of times we eat dessert to a minimum. Went to the mammoth site in Hot Springs, then headed south. Made it to carhenge around noon. Cool, will post pictures tomorrow. On to Grand island, NE. Can make it home tomorrow if can work out good tome to visit our son at KSU.

Awesome...what a memorable trip for you guys. It was great meeting you and I hope to see you guys again next summer in Colorado for the VBA National Rally!
