Well Kris, I would have said it's too early for me to say, we'd be "going it alone. I certainly can't base it on maybe 3 posts! saying count me in if "you" pick the right month in the summer. But you do what you want Kris, it's out there now, that you'd rather head to ID either with the SouthWest or the NorthCentral grps.

So you Canadian's,.... lets hear what you want.

It was my second choice for the 2010 rally but I went with Kalispell, MT, so I have already done a lot of the legwork for Orofino.

I spoke with Joel yesterday and am waiting for him to chat with his cohorts to see if they want to again collaborate or do something on their own. Combining would definitely bring more attendees and if Joel bows out, I may check with the North Central guys and inquire of their interest. Heck, I will probably do that anyways!
Orofino, ID sounds like fun. We're in except for the middle of July when we're in Gunnison, CO with all the kids and grandkids.

I'm game for both Canada and Idaho.... But I agree with Larry. We need a hotel with a fire pit or a central meeting place for comradeship... eh? LoL There is so much to offer in the great north (Canada included) that maybe we should look at multiple events. Instead of a week long event, maybe a few long weekends? Just a thought.... Anybody going to Street Vibes this year?

I hear you Tom,...the only thing with weekend things is it takes people time to get to the destination and then the days at the actual rally. It ends up taking up a week or more for some. Whatever we do I look fwd. to seeing you at it.

I'd consider either or both a Western Canada and NW US rally dependent on vacation time and dates.

I'm happy to say that I have been in contact with Kris "netnorski" Olsen and he/they have decided to help in a joint effort with the next regional rally for next year. We are aiming for a destination in Alberta, Canada or more specifically the Kananaskis area. Not a lot of research has gone into this yet but be assured efforts will begin shortly to confirm both a firm destination and dates for the rally. So it is even more important at this time that we hear from our respective members on their boards with their suggestions and on their availability. At the present time we feel July might be best for both regions. Please pass the word around with other members you're in contact with and be sure to post your availability and willingness to attend the first western Canadian rally, in conjunction with the NorthWest grp.

I was just up in the Kananaskis area with the wife this weekend having a weiner roast at one of the many pull out spots, Beautifull area.
There is no for seeable reason I shouldn't be able to make at least some of this event.
Let me know if you need a hand with anything, accomadations, scouting out day trips, whatever... by the way July is typically a good month for wicked thunderstorms in the evening

I will be in touch looking for help if need be, for sure. Thanks ! We have focused in on a place to stay but nothing for sure yet. Thanks also for the heads up on the thunderstorm activity in July. I'm not seeing that as a bad thing really. As long as it's nice during the day for riding. I use to live in a rural area just west of Stoney Plain, and spent some time in Calgary and have seen it snow there in July. Alberta can be hard to predict weather wise. I once had a small but powerful tornado, cruise through my acreage. Got most of my stuff secured but lost a 4X8 sheet of 1/2 inch plywood. No idea where that got to. Anyway, thanks again and stay in touch. If you are in touch with any members be sure to direct them to the site to say if they have an appetite to attend a rally,....probably in mid July.

Check out the preliminary poll on attendance for a joint rally.

Well it's official and I'll set up a separate information post but Kris and I have chosen a base for the rally and the dates are set.
The Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge is the name of the place and the dates are July 17th, 18th, and 19th.
in Canmore, Alberta Canada.
Here is a link to their web site http://www.rockyski.ca/
It's not a fancy place and it's been around for a number of years. But from what I/we have researched it's affordable, clean and friendly and has a lot to offer. Kris and I were doing our own research for places and we both came across this place. So when Kris came to me saying he thought he might have found something for us, and me having bookmarked the same place for consideration it seemed like it was meant to be. Canmore is relatively central and not far from places like Banff and the Kananaskis and I think it's going to fit a KawaNOW rally to a tee.
So when we get the info on how many rooms, their type and the group rate pricing,.... we'll have it posted on an information post within the rally section of the forum.
My thanks to Kris for doing the leg work and introducing the Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge to KawaNOW, getting dates and pricing secured. You've saved me a lot of work, at a busy time in my life. It's great to have you on board and I know that working together we will have an outstanding rally in 2012.

I stayed in the Econo Lodge in Canmore. The Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge is nearby. Canmore is a great location. As you said, it's easy to get to Banff and other areas. Loved that part of my trip to Canada. July may be a good possibility for me.

As Rick said....the place is clean AND affordable. Most places in that area are $200-250 per night. We are looking at $100-120....a big savings! Also, we have secured a wide range of room options for those wishing to team up. I have not yet signed the agreement though, so don't call them until we have everything finalized. It is a beautiful area that should be on eveyone's bucket list....so I hope many of you will include the rally as part of your summer plans for next year.
