2012 Mississippi River Road Trip

Just finished out an 11 day trip plan for later this month. Start from Roswell, GA and go to Land Between The Lakes in KY, stop by Reelfoot Lake in TN, slowly meander down the Mississippi River using the Great River Road to Baton Rouge, LA, swing over to Mobile for some seafood and head home. 1531 miles.

Been listening to the news and they say the Mississippi is down quite a bit and now the NWS says there are two tropical waves headed toward the US. Timing is everything i guess.

New NWS track says TS Isaac will be converting to a hurricane and coming ashore around PCB, FL on Weds morning of next week. Joyce appears to be headed out to the Atlantic and is no threat.

I will be riding from Reelfoot Lake, TN to the casinos at Tunica MS about that time, 300 miles away from it all.

I may run into residuals in Baton Rouge later next week but I wouldn’t expect anything serious. It ought to dissipate soon after landing so it won’t affect travel on the Pensacola leg or the trip home to GA.

Well, things didnt go as planned. We got up to LBL and the 2nd day got a call that my MIL had a heart attack. We pack up and drive 13 hours into Hurricane Isaac only to find out that, oops, it was apparently a panic attack. Needless to say, all of our plans were shot. Having cancelled all reservations, and having Isaac marching up the Mississippi Valley, we ended up stuck at MIL house for the remainder of the trip. Did take a day trip to St Augustine. Pics attached.

Awesome pics. Sorry to hear about your plans being botched, but atleast it wasn't a heart attack.

Yes, agreed. The hurricane didnt help either. We thought about just going back except the wrong way but Isaac just kept on raining and blowing...

Plan another trip, the excitement and anticipation of the upcoming
trip will defuse the downside of this one not working out.

P.S. I thought that conflict had been settled.
