But officer, it had a Buick emblem on the back

My wife called me on her way to work to tell me what had just happened to her. On a two lane state highway in rural Illinois--speed limit 55--a guy behind her is on her bumper and can't wait to get around her. She would've been pushing the limit. At the stoplight on the edge of town the two lane opens up to four lanes, still 55mph and this guy goes around her and is already pushing 80 when the state police motorcycle cop approaching from the other direction does a u-turn and got him in seconds. Now you just know the guy told the officer "But officer, it had a Buick emblem on the back."

Oh, come on. Haven't you many times followed a Buick, Grand Marquis Brougham, Oldsmobile, Crown Victoria, or some other old fart's "senior citizen sled" and would rather enjoy following a slow school bus on a busy school day? Well, my wife drives the Buick Encore with a turbo in it and she's not one to be picked on. I do hope I'm not explaining this to Prius drivers.

Still guess it's a "you had to be there" story even with the explanation.

Since I may be one of those "old farts" (but still with a heavier foot than I should have) I would like to pose a question: if the joke has to be explained is it still a joke?

I spent about 15 minutes following a Caddy through town yesterday
at about 17 mph. I get the joke now!

Thank you, Loafer.
Things are and have been so bad on the highways around St.Louis that back in 2007 my white GMC truck got a 5 inch tall sticker on top the front windshield (in reverse, like ambulance) that said "Slower traffic move right". In rush hour traffic they go to the airport, grocery, or wally world, in the fast lane doing one mph less than the posted limit. It may take them 4 miles to pass just one semi on the flat interstate. It's a contributing factor as to us moving out. In Missouri and Illinois, both states have laws they can't or don't enforce about hogging the left lane.

Hogging the left lane is one thing but profiling buicks as the culprit should be politically incorrect.
