Pacific Coast Camping Ride 05-08

We met on a Friday morning and had a light bite before heading out toward Hwy 1 on the left coast. Left to right Valdez, Les, Redeye

Packed up we hit the road

We were on the coast by midday. 73 miles of twisties!

See the Sea Lions taking a break on the beach from their migration

We got camped late the first night in San Simeon State Park but had some tamales and beer over a fire and then had breakfast in town the next morning.

We are now heading north on Hwy 25. A snake of a road.

Made an unscheduled stop while Les went for gas. Then off to our next camp

Next day was full of twisties again

Our last stop for BBQ, Blues and Beer before heading home

Hwy 1 south, Hwy 25 North, Hwy 49 North 865 miles, 3 days. See the rest of the pictures here: http://photobucket.com/Valdez

Way cool, don't have many cool twisties in Indiana. I would love to ride those roads.

Nice photos, Juan. I recognise many of those spots from my own travels. I have never seen such a population of sea lions on the coast though, save in San Francisco Bay. I should spend more time on the coast (yeah, right. Maybe in another 15 years when I retire.)

I've taken Highway 1 all the way up to Cresent City from Malibu. I was so envious of your guys for going on that ride!! those pics are just as I remembered. That bridge over the ocean cut out is infamous!!

VERY NICE. Hiway 25 is called the Angry Snake Road by the locals. Hiway 49 is the Little Dragon. Hiway 1 is, well called Hiway 1. The ride was a BLAST. OK, so we do have pictures of you out of gas in "Paicines" California. You just titled it, an unscheduled stop. GOOD JOB. -Rich

Wait a minute...

The BMW ran out of gas? Before the Nomads? How the heck did that happen?

No it was a black NOMAD that ran out of gas. Not the Black Pearl one, but a black NOMAD never the less.

The Beemer made the gas run to Tres Pinos. How much for a gallon of gas?

Ron, you should post on the "How Far can You Push It" thread, or "how much longer once reserve light is on", since you have first hand knowledge.

I'll shut up now, I don't want to steal your thunder. -Rich

I just want to say thanks to Trip, I met Rich on this forum, and I'm glad I did. He rides with class and not only shows it on the road but around the campfire too. It was good riding with youse guys and a weekend to remember!

Now what happens in Tres Pinos stays in Tres Pinos....... (thanks for the push)

OK, I get it now. I misinterpreted the caption on that photo.

There's no shame in running out of gas though. I just was (mistakenly) amused at the fact that the BMW had less range.
