Sore Throat Remedy

Anyone got a good home remedy for a sore throat? I have been sick for a week and can barely swallow. I heard gargle with red pepper in hot water works. Any ideas?

A week? You should probably go get checked for strep throat. That can be serious, it can damage your heart.

No kidding zoom. A sore throat for over 3 days is not normal. Go get it checked out.

Try a cup of hot tea with a spoonful of honey and a shot of whiskey in it, have 2-3 if your thirsty.

Jim has sinus problems and they drain down his throat making it sore. If he can take something to clear up the sinus problem the sore throat goes away in a day or two. He has done the hot totty thing only with lemon aid, honey and wiskey.

Get some chewable vitamin C tabs. Chew them up and let them slowly desolve and run down your throat. You can take 2 to 3 thousand mg of C daily without any harm. Jim has also drank a little green olive or dill pickle juice. For instant relief he keeps some sore throat spray in the cabinet.

He has also painted the outside of his throat with iodine and let it soak into the skin and ithe throat. Warning: doing this will give you a red rust looking stain on your neck for several hours. This is his last resort before going to the doctor.

Gargle with vinegar and salt mixed. It kills the pain and neutralizes the Ph. It works.

Thanks for all the responses. I missed going to the doctor. I was just too busy to stop and also had to help my son move yesterday and today. I tried the Jack Daniel's straight last night and I think it actually worked. (My son is a nurse and he also suggested Jack Daniels.) The soreness is almost gone and I didn't get very deep in the bottle LOL. Maybe all the saltwater, honey & lemon, red pepper water, cucumbers, (didn't do the iodine paint your throat deal) helped a little bit too. Usually it takes two weeks to get over the crud whether I take anything or not.
