Greetings, welcome and CONGRATULATIONS!

Yes, the 1700 is a heat generating machine.
Lots of good experienced advice given above. I am 1/2 through the warranties on both our Vaq's. I waited for awhile on the first one, for the same reason you listed. When I finally gave in, I was SO glad. The reflash addresses many points of concern, including heat. When the second Vaq came home, the ECU was pulled at 36 miles and sent to Ivan. The bike had 6 miles on it when I bought it. I live 20+/- miles from the dealer... :)
