Trunk Project Progress (Old Venture Trunk)

Hey All,

After picking your brains about paint and such, I got started on my trunk project for my 05 Nad. Here is the progress I have made so far:

I took the old arm rests and the back rest to have them redone and they look great. A local shop did them up for me at a pretty reasonable price. I tumbled the hinges and other parts and they shined right up. I have to tape for the accent color (silver) and then spray that, and then Clear coat, and as they say, "we are off to the races." So far with the purchase of the trunk (off eBay) the paint, (rattle cans from Auto Zone) and the re-upholstery job, I have a total of $180.00 into the project. (That does not include the wompus rack that was purchased last year) I will be glad to have this done and on the bike and out of my Woodshop

Thanks for the help!
John

That's around where I'm at with mine as well.
I purchased a 1982 Honda aspencade trunk for $25 off craigslist. Took alot of work to get rid of the badges and random holes all over the bag. The thing was in rough shape and the paint would just flake off under the weight of your thumb. So now I have my first coat of primer on it and just waiting to get back to that fun time waster of sanding!
Yours is looking pretty darn good from here! Do you have any pics of the back/arm rests? How much did it cost to have the back/arm rests redone?

I have them in a bag right now until I get done with the painting. It was $100.00 to have them redone, which was cheaper than I thought it would be.

Thanks!
John

It comes so close that you can't tell it's not a factory match. I will know better when I see it on the bike in the sun shine. I have compaired the top piece of the trunk with the blue on the saddle bag and it looks perfect. But the sun has a way of making things look different.

Thanks for the kind comments!

I first suggested just taking your trunk to a body shop to be painted. I stand corrected.
You've done a great job while saving a pile of money. I'm sure that sun or no sun it'll look great when you're done.

How did you come up with the match for paint. Did they have a chart or something? I need the green and if they can match blue they should match green. There are a few stores here that sell that brand. Iguess I could go solid silver.

I took the saddle bag to the Auto Zone store and matched the cap color to the saddle bag. Seems to have worked pretty good!

Thanks!
John
