Rubber Counter Balancers

Counter balancers...
What are they for, where are they mounted and when would you know they need to be replaced?

They absorb excessive vibration in the motor, if you develope a knock or the motor vibrates more than it used to, this may be the reason. They are located in the bottom of the motor, and are accessable on the LH side of the engine.
Ive never replaced them myself, but others have and say it not that difficult, and does make a difference when finished.

Zoom
A symptom of counter balance rubber problems can be a type of bottom end knock. The balance shaft is located just ahead of the crankshaft. Replacing them is not to difficult but does involve removiing the stator cover and stators. Also keep in mind that removal of these gears involves messing with valve timeing. Seems like a guy would need a whole lot of milage on the bike before these would wear out.... has anyone got an average milage before looking at replacing these?

I think Chuckster has replaced them on a couple bikes, I have no idea at what mileage .
I posted the part numbers for the gaskets and dampeners required on the Tech board.
