National Rally 2009

Op;

At this point I had planned going a bit early and staying a bit later. Too long of a distance to only stay for a couple days; and it sounds like the roads around there are great for riding -- at least that is what everyone tells me.

I can't wait to ride through Spearfish canyon. One of the most beautiful places in the state.

Yeah, Spearfish Canyon is definitely a great place to ride. I've only ridden through it on a bike once, but every fall when we drive to Denver for a Broncos game, I always take that route, even though it's a little longer. The whole canyon is lit up in fall colors, and it's just great.

I have not had the privilege of going on a bike yet only a car. Can't wait. Thinking it would be a great picnic spot with my wife.

Did Spearfish Canyon this past summer. Fantastic. Almost a given if you do a northern loop to include seeing Sturgis in the off season.

Aint much to see in Sturgis during the off season. Last time I was there I saw a lot of boarded up buildings.

In June, there were T-shirt shops open. Still probably the best time to be in the area, other than the one time in their life everyone, here at least, should see Bike Week in full swing.

I don't know. Sturgis is just to big and disorganized for my taste. It reminds me of a line from the movie Twister, " I'd like to get struck by lightning once, you know, see what it's like." I guess you gotta do it once right?

OP,
How have you managed to miss the three best western states? Almost looks like you tried to avoid us.

No when I went through the west it was February. Not a time for riding in the mountains. Did a vacation trip and rode up and down the coast with some friends on their machines. Flew out and flew home. Had a lot of those trips as a kid. Go to visit relatives for the summer vacation or xmas break and they would hook us up with bikes.

So is anyone from Illinois going? I'm kicking around the idea. Was wondering if there is a group riding out?
