Odometer not working

Tried this question on another thread with no response. 03 Nomad, it sat on a trickle charger for over a year. One of the things I wanted to address was the odometer, the window looked like a burnt prune. It was a tinted cover, half there and all wrinkled up from heat (?) with the meter reading properly.

I removed the gauge and "easily" removed the offending piece and reinstalled the cluster.
The speedometer and gas gauge works fine but now I have no odometer (etc.). Check and rechecked the connections, now I'm needing help. The battery had a couple bad cells so it has been replaced (Yasua).

Please tell me that there is an odometer replacement. It's killing me that the used "cluster" I've found are running close to the $300 mark. Thanks for the reply.

You can have yours repaired thru the Speedo Specialists listed all over the internet especially for motorcycles. Its a specialized business....and a planned screwedness....since the .gov bullshit looks at the mileage and all stuff associated with speedometers and them being made to be accurated....they gotta get their piece of the pie....
Therefore, specialized folks dealing with specialized schicte here.
They can remileage a used replacement to fit the mileage of your bike exactly....or you can send in your now messed up speedo, these guys can fix it for you, including burnt out LEDS some can do custom graphics on the speedo faces and custom colors....
Turn around is about a week, the charge about $200-$250 and come with at least a 2 year warranty....

Just wait until one comes along at a decent price.

All of the mileage info is stored on the ECM, not on the speedo itself.

At least on the FI bikes.

And there it is........no one ever said it would be easy or cheap.

Thank you guys for all the information. Now I'm hoping that one day I'll start her up and all will be good in Nomad land. My luck will be that the ECU portion has a problem, now that would really stink.
Thanks again guys.

I doubt the issue with the speedometer is an ECU issue.

So, there you have it. It's in the speedo...no, it's in the ecu,....no, it's probably not.

And DL, I love "accurated". Don't think that's a word, but I instantly knew what you meant. Should I be worried?

Hahaha....I believe MAS is right....info is in the ECU....my mind was stuck in the old frame of mind....parts....the speedo is a readout for information....

My tiny mind is spinning. One question always multiples exponentially, so . The odometer (the led read out) is the only problem, everything else works.

The info is stored in the ECU if I'm getting that right. With a "used" cluster will the stored ECU info read on the replacement odometer cluster.

Can you believe how much that little "info" being out draws my attention.

Only if we're riding in close formation at like a national event....if we're up front, could cause a problem going into gas stations, scraping the pipes....

My odometer went out in 2018. Couldn't find any info on getting it repaired. Local dealer said they had never seen one go bad. Mine is an 03 also.

I have a GPS speedo app on my phone that does milage and has Trip 1, Trip 2 info. Kind of a pain to use every time I jump on the bike.
So I called 5 different speedo shops today and they all said "Good luck". So I'm wondering if the internet is all that great. I will try Ebay again, couldn't find anything with a reasonable price last time I looked.
This also seems to be an "03 Nomad" thing, to my dismay.
