Spark Plugs

Tank is down to a gallon, so, thought I would check the plugs. Is it me, or does anyone else thing, "what a horrible design"?

I miss the 2 plugs per cylinder on my 1500 classic, but the plugs on the 1700 are actuall in the best position on the jugs. You need a 14 mm deep socket and you are in business. I pulled mine to take a peek after the ECU flash since I had a tiny bit of ping at wide open throttle. They looked fine and should last 100,000 miles

Yep, about $11 each, but you will not need to change them for 100000 miles! What do two tires cost for these M/C's and how many miles do you get out of them. I also bet that the 100000 mile plugs will go another 100000. Not bad for 20 something bucks.

I ran a set for 50,000+ miles and they were like the day I put them in. The gap had NOT CHANGED, not even by .001".

There sure is the possibility they will run for 100,000 mls as the iridium tip is so hard there is virtually no electrode wear.

Don't change them b4 50,000 at least.

I did pull mine out when I got the bike. Not to change them, but just to put some anti seize compound on the threads.

The retail on the 1700 plugs is $54 apiece, not that anyone pays that much. The change interval according to the manual is 30k miles.
For the price and weight comparison between tires and plugs. Plugs are gold..

Ride safe,
Smokier

Thumbs Up

These are Iridium plugs (at least that's what they are in my 2015). That's why they are expensive and most likely will last longer than you own the bike.

I got mine for $16 per (I think) and searched everywhere online. I am curious where they were found for $11

I'm curious as to what those look like now . I went with 4 NGK Irdiums in my 1500 along with new wires and caps. I think those plugs were close to 30 bucks for the set of 4 plus the new wires and caps solved the whole cold start problem I was having. A lot of which is my fault because I removed the airsolenoids and went to a single ,right sidecair cleaner. Iridium plugs ain't cheap but they are worth the money from what I've seen out of them so far .

I don't think any of you posting have a 1700 by the looks of it. There is 1 plug available for 1700 - no choice.
