Help with Garmin MapSource please

Hey SWB, I put this here so it would be seen by more members than in the trip department. If you feel it should be moved, do your thing
Anyway, when I am planning trips on MapSource ( the program that comes with Garmin GPS) I have to go to .2 magnification for it to show side roads like the one I live on.
I was wondering if this is normal or if it is not setup right. Could you guys with MapSource see how much magnification you need to have it show the streets in
Camden, NY, 13316 Thanks

Hi TC,

If you change your map detail setting from medium to highest you should get your streets sooner. It is not much of an improvement, but it is the only way I know of getting the smaller streets to show up sooner. I am using NT 2008.

Thanks Mike, that solved the problem.
I still wish this Garmin was compatible with Microsoft Streets & Trips. It is a much easier program to use.
Thanks again.

Good one Al.
I try to stay home till it is done snowing. Then plow my way out. That way I know where the driveway is when I get back home. ;)

Streets and Trips 2010 will also save to GPX format which is compatible with Garmin.

Here's another link. It's for Zumo in particular, but my guess is there's a Garmin forum for every model they offer.

http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php?action=forum

You might have to register, but it's free.

There is quite a few guys over on the ST forum doing this, but honestly I have not tried it for a trip at all yet (hard to do with all the snow :( ).

In S&T 2010 go to the 'Data' menu and select 'Export to GPX file' and save the file somewhere on the computer you can find it. I have a Nuvi (not the Zumo) but when I plug mine in I can browse the GPS in Windows Explorer and then I copy the GPX file to the \Garmin\GPX folder. Once it is in there I can import the route using the GPS and use it as normal.

I just tried it with a basic route and this works on the Nuvi quite well.

The other option that works (but may have some issues with some routes I would guess) is to take the GPX file you created from S&T and then open it in MapSource and use MapSource to transfer the file to the GPS just like normal.

I have been using the HD trip planner and it will download way points directly to my Nuvi. I can do trips together, but it will show all the waypoints in the trip I just have to go from point"A" to point "B" etc. I am planning a 5400 mile trip in June and it saved every place that I used to plan the route.
