Crying Oh No!, Oil Leak!

My 05 1600 Nomad is down for an oil leak on left side just above the kick stand. I pulled the outer cover and it appears to be leaking where the clutch slave cyl bolts to the case. It's leaking enough to blow all over the left exhaust pipe. It's black like oil so I don't think it's clutch fluid. Oil level is ok now but may have been to high. Just wondered if anyone else has seen this leak and if there is a quick, cheap fix. Thanks.

This is a very quick and easy fix. Your clutch pushrod seal is leaking, no big deal. I have had this happen on 2 different motors. Now, I have a '99 1500 and all I have to do is pull the clutch slave cylinder, pull out the clutch pushrod, remove the old seal and replace with a good one. I think the same princible will apply to yours, but it's always a good idea to consult your manual. When looking the part up online, you have to look under the "front bevel gear" diagram to find it. Kawasaki SEAL-OIL,SD-8187,
Part Number: 92049-1017, it's $4.63 + shipping from www.kawasakipartshouse.com, but if you have a dealer close you shouldn't have to pay for shipping.

Hope this helped.

Actually, you can usually use the old seal. Just get some gasket sealer and clean the old one up and put a thin coat around the edge and gently push it back into place. This is a common problem.

Of course the job is much easier if you have a mc jack and one of my adapters to help raise the bike.

It's most likely the clutch pushrod seal. Brake fluid feels/smells different than oil. Remove the clutch slave cylinder and the seal from the pushrod shaft. YOU DON'T WANT TO PUSH THE SEAL INTO THE ENGINE CAVITY. Clean the seal and the hole it sits in, spread gasket sealer around the outside of the seal and put it back into place. Let it sit overnight, then reassemble. Problem solved. Very common problem on these bikes.

"Black like oil" ....yikes!!!!!!!!!! When is the last time you flushed the clutch AND brakes fluids? Don't just change the seal, now is a good time to flush the fluids.

It's not the slave cylinder seal leaking, It is the seal on the clutch push rod where it goes into the engine case = motor oil.

Like Norm said, this is motor oil, not clutch oil. The clutch pushrod seal commonly pops out of the hole in the side of the case and allows motor oil to leak out. Very easy fix and the old seal is usually re-useable.

It could be gear oil sometimes, as the final drive seal goes and the oil drips from the same area.

Here's a good write up with pictures for the fix, when I did mine I found the seal was on pulled out from the engine case and on the pushrod.

Do it yourself!

Well I have an issue. Had the same oil leak with the clutch rod seal, had someone do it for me and said it just needed to be reseated in and proceeded to pop it in past the case so it's on the rod but insude the case!!!! What to do?? Figure as long as the rod NEVER comes out it would just sit there and could put in a new seal but any ideas on how to get the dam thing out?? If it drops down what do you think would happen?
