Just bought my first Kawi:

Hello everyone. I'm a newb here. After owning an awesome '98 Honda ACE Tourer for the past 3 years, I wanted to "upgrade" to a little bigger bike with a bit more power and Fuel Injection, and hopefully a little lower rpm's at highway speeds. The Nomad 1500 seemed to fit the bill and was as close to my Tourer as I could find. Both are V-twin with hard bags and great touring characteristics. I was surprised when I went to look at some used Nomads that they really aren't as big as I was thinking as far as overall size goes. Actually, the wheel base is the exact same as my T. But I really like the fact that it is fuel injected, has a 5 gallon tank as compared to my 3.7 gallon T, and as I said, has 400 more cc's. Also seems like there are a ton more aftermarket options compared to my T. 95% of my riding is 2 up with my wife as she loves to ride! We put on about 12,000 miles a year together!

The bike I bought is an 03 with 11,500 miles. It is literally bone stock. What mods would you all consider as the first I should do on her (the bike, not the wife ;))? I was thinking custom pipes, air intake, and Power Commander III? Also, how is the stock seat on the Nomad? I am used to a Mustang 2 up studded seat. I would love to hear what all of your "Must have or Must do" mods and upgrades are for the Nomad, as I wanna get a list started and prioritize it accordingly. Looking forward to enjoying my new to me Kawi and getting to know some of you all on here!!!

Welcome from Oklahoma. Pipes, intake and Dobeck TFI. The stock seat suck a Mustang is better and a Russell is the best. Have fun with you new to you bike.

If you are used to a Mustang seat the stock Nomad seat isn't going to do it for you.

Welcome aboard! I'd recommend the Russel Daylong seat if your planning any long distance rides, it will make a world of difference.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and advice! Framer, do you have a recommendation as far as pipes go, or should I just stick with the V&H Dual Baggers? Also, what exactly is the Dobeck TFI? I'm assuming it is roughly the same as the Power Commander? But is there any differences in them to sway me that way? I'm not that up on exactly how the FI bikes work when it comes to the fuel programmers and such. Is the Dobeck one that you just plug in and it does all the adjustments automatically, or do you have to program it manually for different applications?

Greetings from Las Vegas! Big 3 ... intake, exhaust and fuel controller. The stock seat has too many "hot spots" for distance riding. There are lots of options. It really depends on your budget!

After 14 years of riding the stock seat I purchased a $65 sheep skin. It may not be for every one, but I like it very much. Welcome!

Welcome from CT. I had my seat redone by Spencers last year. It made a difference but ended buying a air seat which works great. There are lots of options depending how much you want to spend. Ride safe
