Going Dead

I have a 2005 Nomad and every now and then when I slow down to stop it will go dead. Today it did it 4 times with me. I always gear down to stop. Whenever I get to 1st gear and then pull the clutch in to stop it would go dead. I hit the starter button and it fires right back up. I am assuming that I need to up the idle a little. Could one of you guys tell me how to do that. I do not have a mechanic book but need to get one. Other than that the bike runs great. Thanks for the help.

It sounds to me like your idle is too low. It's simple to adjust it, but before we go there, have you cleaned your throttle body? If it's dirty, your idle speed will drop. That should be cleaned first. It should raise your idle back up to normal. If it has recently been cleaned, or it didn't improve the idle, then you adjust the idle knob. It's located under the right side air cleaner housing. It's a black knob on the end of a cable with a black covering. Turn it clockwise to increase the idle, counter-clockwise to decrease.

Id bet it needs a cleaning as CJ described, especially if it never been done. Give that a try first.

Thanks guys,
Cleaning the throttle body seemed to do the trick. Idle has picked up and I drove it yesterday for a while and it didn't go dead once. I love this site. You guys and gals are awesome. I have a lot to learn and you make it easy to do just that.

After a while youll get to know when the throttle body wants to get cleaned, When the mileage starts to get worse and the idle goes down its time to clean. I do mine at least twice a season.
