Soliciting ideas for a new product.....

The other night I was cleaning my bike and noticed several dings on my front fender. Since I have a tank bra, engine guard bra and hard bag covers, I got to thinking....why not have a front fender chap or bra?????

I posed the idea to Delinda of phcustoms who happens to be a member of this forum. She said that she and her husband have contemplated that idea but couldn't figure out how to secure the chap to the front fender properly without it coming off at high speed.

So, I'd like to get some ideas from you guys and gals as to how it might be secured on the front fender.

What do ya think?

Trip

It could be held on with a three fabric straps that clip on in the front with magnets holding it to the sides of the fender, then another clip at the bottom. Just a starting place.

That could be one way Socwkbiker.....I was thinking that a piece of metal could be cut and shaped the same size as the underside of the fender. Then make a leather cover that could be glued to the metal part. Then make a pocket that would slide over the front of the fender with the covered metal part sliding underneath. Then, the top could be fastened with velcro. If you ever wanted to take it off, just use some GooGone to get the sticky off the fender.

Or use velcro to close the back end so all you have to do is slide it off?

The only problem that I see with using a magnet is the thought of riding down the interstate at 70 mph during extreme weather... I don't know how it would hold up... we are going to start working on it some more tomorrow, so maybe between several ideas, we can find something that will work. Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

how about attaching the front of the chap to a chrome cap/bumper that fits the end of the fender? slip the cap over the front and have the tension controlled at the rear attachment point?

disclaimer: The ideas expressed in this posting are my own, unless they sound stupid; in which case they are the work of a clever imposter.

I like the idea of using velcro.. it seems to me to be the easiest thing.. my only worry is that the sticky part on the velcro might somehow have a reaction with the paint, and damage it. Has anyone had any experience with this before?

Would it be any different than the glue used on the stickers they put on new bikes? You know, the fuel, saddlebag stickers.

Does anyone know if they changed the fenders when they moved from the 1500's to the 1600's? They look about the same to me....

Surely one can get the glue off with a little GooGone. That stuff works well without dulling or hurting the finish.
