Just find out where the New Orleans Katrina "refugees/leeches" are staying. Avoid them and you should be safe....

Hey, Basco. Life long resident of Houston. Unfortunately, I can't tell you of anything I would consider "safe" on that side of town. Go on down toward League city, Kema, I-45 far south to stay somewhat close. I prefer the northwest suburbs out past Jersey Village, and over to 45 along and above 1960. or along I-10 west of the beltway. Even sugarland area has great places. Sadly, these are not close to Pasadena. Good luck, and ya'll be safe. Welcome to Houston.

I'm from Pasadena and dont' live far from there now.
What part of Pasadena do you need to go to?

The newer areas, further South and East, are better than the North-West areas.
Generaly a 5-10 mile radius around Beltway 8 and Fairmont is either safe or not Pasadena any more. :)

Let me know where you have to be and I can give you more specifics.

BTW: I like the Taylor area. I have several family members in that area.

Hey Scott we have to drop our daughter off at Peace Lutheran church at 6435 Fairmont Parkway Friday night and pick her up
Sunday morning so we are just gonna stay down there

It doesn't really matter what side of Houston just looking for a safe place

Well, it's safe - you could stay at South Shore Harbor and then go to Kemah Boardwalk the next day - or before you drop her off.

As I remember, Red Bluff should get you from Pasadena to Clear Lake/Kemah

What'cha think fellow Houstonians?

Peace Lutheran is in a "good" part of town.
Mikesth had a good suggestion for the Kemah/Clear Lake/NASA area. You should find plenty to do in the area. From Peace Lutheran come back a couple blocks west to Space Center Blvd. and go left (south). Space Center dead ends into the NASA Parkway right on Clear Lake. Kemah will be to the left, NASA to the right. The Space Center roadway is better than Red Bluff. A few more lights, but the preferred route nonetheless.

Sounds like a good excuse for a local KawaNOW get-together. Scott Kelm, what about T-Bone Tom's or Monument Inn on Friday or Saturday evenin for dinner? I'd suggest lunch, but I'm working days next weekend.

I know Peace, it's not far from our church on the Beltway between Fairmont and Preston.

I guess where you stay also depends what else you want to do and how much time you have to do it.
There's a hotel at I45 and Beltway 8 (North East corner) that's
fairly new and close to the freeway, a movie theater and several nice restaurants.
There are also a couple of nice, small hotels here in Deer Park which is about 15 minutes from Peace.
The Kemah area is fun but be prepared for crowds and a long wait to eat.

Per LW: Haven't been to T-bone Tom's in a long while, there was too much smoke there for me. I think it's gone smokeless now.
I like Monument Inn a lot too.
Best mexican food clost to Peace is either Jonny Tamale's on the beltway at Crenshaw or Border Grill on Spencer between Red Bluff and Center.
(A topic for another thread but the Houston area, including Pasadena, has the best mexican food in the world!)

Don't know if I'll be in town Friday, maybe Saturday.

The Clear Lake area is nice too. Don't be afraid to take Redbluff. There's just not many businesses on it.
Fastest way to Kemah is Fairmont to Red Bluff to 146 to Kemah.
Best way to Clear Lake is as LW said. There's another way but it's through the the chemical plants and you have to be local to be immune to the "aroma".

The first 7 on this list should be ok EXCEPT for Holiday Inn Express at 2601 Spencer.

There's a good chance expecially if they're related to the Zochs.
I have about 16 aunts and uncles, I can't keep track.
I'm closer to my mom's side of the family - Schneiders.
My Uncle Boobie :) used to drive a school bus, when he retired for Coke, for Tayler schools.
