I I am soon to pick up a 2009 Voyager from a large reputable dealership. The Voyager is $5200 and has 8800 miles on the clock. ( Should I be suspicious???). Pulled a VIN History report. Owner 1 did 6000 miles in 3 years. Owner 2 did 2800 miles in 6 years. It was traded in for a new Indian Chief. OK MY QUESTION... Anyone know what the original tires are on the 09 Voyager??? If the current tires are different ( or mismatched) it would mean a tire change happened at some point. Which would mean the bike would maybe have more miles on it that stated, as the original tires should last over 10000 miles, especially the front one. Any thought's on my thinking here???? With only 2800 miles in the last 6 years, could the bike have been ridden by a "around the neighborhood" rider, or maybe the bike was a "trailer Queen". Not understanding why someone who rode so few miles in the last 6 years would trade in, for a new Indian Chief $$$)

OEM tires are Bridgestone exedras. There is a date code on the tires, if you know where to look.
Rear stock tires are known to get less than 8,000 miles. It shouldn't still have factory tires on it. Some guys will change both at same time even if front isn't worn out. Low mileage shouldn't be a issue. That sounds like a good price for that year.

On my '15 Voyager I had to change the rear tire at 5085 miles and the front tire at 8618 miles.

If they are the original tires get them off there now.
They should be dry rotted as hell.

I don't think it's uncommon at all for a guy to own a bike and not ride it. Think of it like a guy who has a gym membership and goes twice a year, pretty common in fact gyms across the nation rely on it. Tampering with the mileage to make so little money on a used motorcycle doesn't make sense either. I'd also assume if they're selling the bike to you certified it'll probably have brand new tires on it, if it doesn't ask for them.
Still I think it's a great price for a great bike, why not buy it.. Good luck, ride safely.

It will need all the fluids changed. If it was only ridden 6000 miles a year I would bet the fluids were never changed.

T H A N K Y O U A L L for responding. Some great answers. Yes it is a deal to good to be true for me. I had a 99 Nomad, and for the last 3 years a 2009 Nomad. Ride the heck out of it( Ohio to Nova Scotia this past summer and then a Sept. trip to Colorado. Love the Nomad but I truly want a Voyager. So a 09 with less than 9K miles for $5200 out the door price from a dealer is a great deal for me. Plus I love the color - Black and Blue, (l still have to pay Ohio, title and reg) . Well worth doing a 450 round trip drive to pick it up. I do my own wrenching, so will be doing all the fluids, checks, and maint, over the winter. Picking up on Thursday.

Hey I see your in the Falls, I'm in Wadsworth, small world, lol. Like everyone said the stock tires are in my opinion very soft, I could never get 5k out of the rear. Gave up on them, went darkside on mine, which was an 09. Some kid decided to turn left in front of me totaling that one, replaced it with a 2012, Great bikes for the money. The 2012 I have now had 3k miles on it when I bought it so still had original tires , will go darkside on this one this spring.

Picked up my 09 Voyager on Thursday. 460 mile round trip but well worth it. For those who have comment on my questions... with 8800 m iles the rear tire is a (OEM) Bridgestone Excedra that has about 75 % tread remaining. The front is a almost new Avon Cobra. Still confused a bit about the tires VS. Mileage, but none the less the Voyager seem to be in Excellent condition as advertised. With only 2100 mile put on it in the last 6 years. A Army Ft. Knox KY sticker on the fork may indicate the reason for so few miles .

Hello ... Thanks for your reply. I would comment that if you only get 5000 miles out of a rear tire, that seems low. For what I have been told, most rear tires should get 8000 miles or more. I Improper inflation is a big cause of tires wearing quickly or unevenly - especially cupping. I put on a Shinko 777 rear tire last year. Got almost 9000 on it in the year , although now very close to the wear bars. and time for a change. Front tire has quite a bit of life left. I do check my tire pressure every few weeks and always before and during long multi day trips.

Congratulations on the new ride.
Sounds like a good deal on the Voyager. I would not worry about the tires. Look for the IVANS sticker on the ECU. Do the maintenance. I'd double check rubber and plastic tubes, seems like they may have sat alot... You have a great bike there, ride and enjoy!

Check the date code on that Brickstone.
Tires age out, and that can be one of the worst potential hazards imagineable.

I wear out the Bridgestone Excedra tires too quickly on the Vaquero and have switched over to the Metzeler 888 Marathon ultras. Too early to tell but a friend of mine has seen 20,000 on his Metz front tire on a Street glide that weights about the same as my bike and 14,000 on the rear. I will report from this coming season on those as they get some miles on them and will also report on the handling.
