I also have one of these but I purchased at Walmart, it didn't work either.

Totally opposite at my house. If I'm quiet, the wife is worried.

I tried a wench from Menards (not to say they are bad) It has 3 grips the in theory tighten as you apply pressure. they just spun around the filter. I think I need to take the rubber parts off to get a better grip , but its in the trash.

I have had lots of success with over-tightened filters simply using large channel locks.

I use a cheap strap wrench I got at Harbor Freight. I also got a pair of oil filter pliers there just in case.

I have one like that. I finally figured out how to hold it in place in a way that it does tighten up. Real tricky to use, but it does work once it gets a grip. Works with or without the rubber tips, but one fell off into the oil (ruined it) so I use it without. Just use K&N filters now.

When I change my oil and filter I just put in 5 qts. The next time I check it is when it's in the pan for the next change and I'm fishing out the drain plugs. I try to change it somewhere between 4-5K miles. I know, the book says 6K. I use a K&N on everything, car, pick-up, and bike.
