The morning gripe

Yesterday I received the JP Cycles Metric Catalog in the mail. Hundreds of pages of cool stuff, and very little of it for the 1600 Nomad. But boy, if you have a 1500 Classic or a 900, there's all kinds of accessories for those.

Why do I always buy the "oddball"? Doesn't matter if it's a bike or a car or a lawn mower, whatever I have is always the asterisk in the catalogs (** fits all models except 05-09 1600 Nomad).

It's the story of my life, I tell ya! :-[

I did see stuff for the 1700 Nomad and 1700 Voyager, I'm sure the selection will increase with time.

YeahI got mine the other day also. I never cared for the J&P catalog. I think Dennis Kirk has more of a selection.

Same thing with the DK catalog, though. Very little to choose from for the Nomad-aholic.

I feel your pain. I had a Shadow Spirit before this and, like the Nomad, it seemed the bastard step child that no one wanted to deal with.... . You end up making your own or jury rigging something. That's part of the fun, too, though.

Why would you need anything since the Nomad comes with it all!

Just kidding CJ.

I know this was all rhetorical, but for whatever reason, the aftermarket support for the 1600 Nomad is poor. I know it isn't going to improve now that the 1600 is obsolete, but you look through a catalog (excluding HD, because there is no shortage of aftermarket support for them), but Star and Honda seem to have the most as far as metrics go.

Just thumb through the catalog and you'll see what I mean. Yes, I am preaching to the choir, but I hope the 1700's have better aftermarket support.

End of rant.

You know the answer is total based on raw production numbers and I would guess to say kawa or suzuki are probable on the short end of the numbers. Tons of HD stuff available from HD itself and the third party aftermarket. This is one thing HD does right. Star and Honda seems to be at least making an effort. The good news is we are a rare breed indeed, I spent the day at thunder beach a local event for me. I spotted only a few Nomads in the sea of HD and even then all were 1500 Nomads.

I posted a thread about this a couple of months ago along the same lines. I think a lot of the problem is JP isn't taking the time to really verify fit. I know there are some chrome radiator covers and other items that I'm sure fit the Nomad. They just don't care to double-check. If you take a second look through, you'll notice a couple different items that list "Classic/Nomad FI (*Carb'd only)" WHAT THE F)($! How bout some clarification!

I got the JP catalog also and IMHO their prices are very high so I probably wouldn't get anything from them anyways.

Hey, I actually like dealing with JP but if you are looking for a outfit that takes the time to "know" what will work check out scootworks.com They were a little shop in Zebulon NC that did custom bikes and sold some chrome out of a store front. They've built quit a little business and they try stuff just like we do. I have fender tips, riser extension, bag rails, rider back rest all from them that no one else new would fit my 07 nomad. They even discovered a hyper-charger made for a sportster that will fit our 1600s that sticks out a 1 1/4 inches less that the one made for our bikes. wish I'd know about that before I put mine on.
