July 11th 2nd 3 state ride
Meeting time 10am Meeting Pace: Bluebonnet Diner 324 King St, Northampton, MA 01060. If you want breakfast get there early. This is a full day of riding and would like to leave no later than 10:30. From Northampton we will ride to Rt. 116 heading NW to 8A and up onto the Mohawk Trail. The Mohawk Trail was used by Native Americans back in the day connecting the Atlantic with N.Y State. It’s very scenic and nothing like the ride though the Mohawk forest into the hairpin turn where we will stop for lunch at the Golden Eagle at the hairpin turn. http://thegoldeneaglerestaurant.com/ge2011/our-menu/ After lunch we will ride along Rt. 2 into N.Y State to Petersburg then turning north on Rt. 22 into Bennington VT. We will then pick up Rt.9 The Molly Stark Trail. The byway is named after the wife of General John Stark who led the Colonial militia to a victory at the Battle of Bennington on August 16, 1777. Again very scenic and fun to ride. For those ridding to Brattleboro, VT the ride ends there. If you do not want to ride the whole length you can cut the ride short in Wilmington, VT. I heard If enough riders go Neil will be wearing his Native American gear. Suppose it beats wearing a Canadian hockey jersey which he has to wear in a few weeks. I haven’t decided if I’ll take 91S from Brattleboro,VT home or cut it short in Wilmington,VT. Either way It will be about a 300 mile day for me. I hope we get more than the 3-4 we usually get.
