Helmet Poll

While researching motorcycle helmets, I started to wonder what types are the most common for KawaNOW members.

The wife and I wear half helmets, but I'm thinking of picking up a couple three-quarter helmets for really long trips and to better accommodate any communication device I might wish to purchase down the road.

So without further adew...please cast your vote then share an opinion if you wish. Thanks!

Cheers....Kris

PS...My apologies if a similar poll has been previously posted...

Most times I wear a half helmet, on really warm days I would like to not wear one at all if I had the choice, in colder weather I wear a full helmet because its a lot warmer on the face.

I started out wearing an HJC Sy-Max modular helmet which I really liked however, after several hours the pressure points became very apparent. This past year I bought an HJC AC-3 3/4 helmet with both a clear and a tinted face shields. I absolutely love this helmet. It is comfortable all day long and NO pressure points develop. I took off the visor it comes with since it makes me look like Kazoo from the Flintstones cartoons. I put on the faceshield since I like the bugs hitting that as opposed to me. Can't say enough about it. I'd buy it again and I'd like to buy it as a replacement in a few years if it's still being made.

I wear an HJC half shell but I'm investigating the modular/full face lids for winter wear (ok, for what we call winter in Houston) and their acceptance of comm gear.

Normally I wear a half helmet but got to thinking safety and started wearing a 3/4 helmet. I wore my full face the other day and loved it because it blocked the cold wind. I'll stick with the 3/4 for now but would wear the full face if it was easier to get on the helmet lock.

During my vacation in September I encountered quite a few rainstorms. My 3/4 helmet had water on both sides of the face shield. In most cases I took off my glasses and put them in the bags to keep them dry. First thing I ordered after my vacation was a full face helmet.

My suggestion is to try several brands. Every one of them fits a little different. I chose an HJC CL-15 for now. However, after talking to the Arai rep at the motorcycle show a couple of weeks ago, I will probably go with that brand the next time. Quite a bit more expensive than the HJC, however it allows for various thicknesses of cheek pads which will customize the fit.

Of the times when I choose to wear a helmet, 80% of the time it's a half helmet, the remaining 20% I wear a three-quarter helmet, and usually only in extreme cold weather. I don't like full helmets and won't wear one.

Helmet Poll

Hi to everyone,
I wear a half helmet. If it's cold out I might zipper in the ear flap protection. I have considered trying a full face for hwy. riding, but haven't done so as of yet. I'll be looking again at the bike show in Jan..
I have never found a helmet that is comfortable yet either. I always seem to buy something that seems alright at first, but after riding for a few hours my forehead gets sore. I do have what I believe to be, a large bean. ..........and my heads big to. ha ha ha......sorry I couldn't resist.

I wear a full face 100% of the time. Just got comfortable with full face at young age riding dirt bikes. Keeps things quieter (wind, traffic, etc). Of course being safer doesn't hurt either. The only down side is a little peripheral vision which requires turning my head when changing lanes.

Heat hasn't been a major issue.

I currently have a Scorpion X-400. Very comfortable for me.

There are times I wish I had a 3/4 or 1/2, like when I want to bring along a cup of coffee.

My helmet, gloves, and armored jacket have become like seat belts....I feel naked if I don't have them on. Sorry, didn't mean to burn that image into your head.....ughhh. :-/

Full-face for me almost all the time, especially on trips. I have two to choose from, both with ear speakers and mic installed. But......I also have a half that I use to ride to work. That way I can lock it in my hard bag.

I must confess that my preference is none. And, yes, I do know better. On trips, in the winter, and when traveling in rain, we wear full face. But very often, I wear none.

When I first started riding I saw this sign in the dealership. "If you think your head is worth $10.00, buy a $10.00 helmet." I have all three types depending on the weather. I wear the half helmet the most.
