Have V & H improved??

Sorry to have drag up an old subject, but just wondering if anyone has recently fitted V & H Touring Duals to their Nomad and if the crossover pipe heat shield and header pipe cracking issues have been rectified??

Still trying to decide on them or the Cobra true duals

I doubt they changed anything, since they never thought there was a problem. Only some pipes cracked and usually well after the warranty period. I still like them.

Your talking about a company that knows there is a problem and not only will not fix it they wont even acknowledge it.
Not someone I would do business with.

I asked a rep from Vance and Hines about the weird lack of a curved heat shield on the crossover pipe. His reply was something like "they know about but they just don't spend that much time on metric bikes!"

They were on the bike when I bought it, have never given me any problems and I like the sound/performance.

I've had the V&H pipes on for the last 26,000+ miles and have not experienced any cracking or problems of any kind. I love this product and would not hesitate to purchase again.
When I first installed mine I had to really tweak the pipes to get them to line up under the bags. Then I read the instructions and loosened the header bolts, tightened the lower attach mounts then re tightened the header bolts.

Mine didn't crack until around 33 - 35k after five years of use.

What are these UB's you guys are talking about? Assuming they are some sort of baffle how do they effect the sound of the pipes?

They are called Ultimate baffles, designed by a member here. They give the bike a nice deep rumble.
You can order them from Chuckster here, he makes them, or there is a drawing you can search here, and make your own.

Sure Cobra pipes cost more than V&H, but to me I think the quality you get with Cobra is way better and worth the extra, Cobra makes a very good product. I will never buy from V&H again, that company is going down hill fast

Cheers everyone, for your comments, suggestions and advice on this and other posts I have put up on the subject of Nomad exhausts.

I have just pulled the pin on a set of Cobra True Duals with billet tips from GM Cycles at a great price of US$595 shipped me here in Oz. Can't wait to get them on and hear/feel the difference!!
