Lost a Friend and Riding Companion

I want to post this here for greater exposure, especially for the new or newly back on a bike croud.

We just recieved the news that a friend of ours was killed in a motorcycle accident. Several things make this tragic, but allow me to lay it out, and tell her story.

Wendy was a beautiful and very energetic 35 year old woman who had dealt with more difficulty and pain in life that most of us will ever see or know. But, despite that, she had done the hard work of making things right, living life as it should be lived. She had secured a prestigous and high paying job with a major insurance co, and was several years removed from the difficulties of the past. She had many good friends, and would join us often on various rides, mostly as passenger, but she had some small riding experience.

Well, as a result of her growth, her indominable spirit, and her better life as it was coming together, she decided to take the plunge, and get her own bike. This is the day we all dream of. And for her, it was no different. Even though, she had taken a rider's course and had gained some small experience on friend's bikes, she was esentially a beginner.

Today, after picking up her new bike, she had a head-on collision on FM1960 near Hwy. 290 after only traveling about a mile or so from the dealership. It was said that she lost control making a turn and went into oposing trafic. She will be remembered.

New riders, take heed. Go with an experienced rider to pick up a new bike if possible. Try not to pick up a new ride in 6:00 rush hour trafic on the worst of major roads. And take it slow and easy, survive today and there's always time to ride later.

Truer words were never spoken. I hadn't ridden in 25 years when I bought my C50T that I later traded in on the Nomad and I had the dealership deliver it to my home. In fact, it was their suggestion.

I'm sorry for your loss.
