Question for rescue worker types

I have a living will that is pretty narrow in what I want done in an emergency. For instance a Do Not Resuscitate.

Logic tells me that rescue workers won't know I have one and will do whatever is necessary to save me.

I have an idea for the Custer ride. If I wear a white T-shirt that says in very large red font...like three inch letters...RESCUE...right in the front below my chin.
Then below that DO NOT RESUSCITATE in black letters.
Then below that in smaller print, Living will inside left saddle bag.

Will it work?

It would look like this
_____________________________

RESCUE
DO NOT RESUSCITATE
Living will inside left saddle bag

_____________________________

Would it get rescue workers to let me be? Or will they be so used to saving folks that they will use all means necessary to save me?

Question for rescue worker types

They would most likely save you. If you're gonna go, don't leave anything to save.

Question for rescue worker types

You really like to plan ahead don't you? I guess you could get a medic alert bracelet, they usually check for them.

Question for rescue worker types

Anyone else find it funny that Dan won't plan ahead for a rally, but he has a detailed plan in place to assure his death is total and complete...whenever it comes? :)
Just joshing ya Dan, I know this is serious to you.

Question for rescue worker types

Dan, This will more than likely tick you off, but if anything happens to you and I'm anywhere around you I will do everything I can to try to keep you alive. Someone will have to pull me away from you. It's my duty as an emergency responder. Sorry.

Question for rescue worker types

Plan on rescusitation being performed Dan.

Just a few weeks ago when we did CE hours for EMS at the plant, there was discussion of DNR orders. The scenario you pose is not one where we would expect to encounter a DNR document. More likely in home bound / nursing home patients with terminal medical condition.

The more lilkely scenario would be that the Whambulance crew would say "transport 'em all, let the ER sort it out."

Anyone want to help me out with Terrebonnednomad and make sure your big enough to pull him away?

I know CPR, and I've made deals with riders on other rides that if they need it, I'll do CPR for them, but they can't do it for me.

Question for rescue worker types

While someone is trying to figure out if your DNR document is legitimate or not (if they even try to look for it) they will continue to do their job.

Couple problems here... no one knows for sure you are who you say you are; thus no legal standing for their assumption despite your efforts of wearing a t-shirt.

If I were you... I would contact the local hospitals in the area of the rally where you would most likely be transported and ask them to email you their DNR form (every hospital has them these days). Fill it out; notarize it; or follow any additional requests they have and send it to them in advance.

Keep a card containing your ICE information in your wallet and include the fact you have submitted a DNR registration with the various hospitals (by name) and that you request they honor the document.

In the meantime... first responders will do what they have to for you until you are transported to a medical facility. DNR's will honored at the medical facility.

Question for rescue worker types

Others have beaten me to it, but I was going to say that first responders don't make that call. That would be worked out in a trauma center.

Question for rescue worker types

For EMT'S DNR orders don't apply to auto accidents or where a crime may have occurred. I will get out some books later an give more of an answer.

Question for rescue worker types

Thanks for the replies guys. I thought that maybe I could make it clear enough that even first responders wouldn't save me.

It sounds clear that unless I need re saved at the hospital, I'm screwed. The rest of you can drag me into the bushes before the first responders get there :)

With cell phones the are going to get there too quick :(
