Spark Plug - looking

Spark Plug question.

I ride a 07 Nomad

Looking for recommendations for spark plugs

I tired the search function but it really sucks (no surprise to you I am sure)

I use what the owners manual recommends.

Id stick with the NGK brand. I use the Iridium plugs and they are only available one heat range colder, but they perform very well.

I may differ from most here, but I re-gap my plugs and keep using them. I've read several people say they replace them every year, but I don't see a reason to do that. re-gap them to specs and clean them and you are good to go, unless the plug has failed.

Ranger,

Our "search" function really sucks.

I polled the membership on spark plugs awhile ago and it seemed to me that most riders prefer what the bike came with.

I did some reading on NGK website and that put my mind at ease. The OEM plugs can last a long time. This is consistent with what the members on here seem to agree.

Long story short, I will go with the book or if I can locate, I will use what Ring recommends.

Cheers,

E.

Why not remove one and see what's in there now?

I pull mine out and check them about once a season. I don't dee the need to replace them every year. This will be about the fifth season on my current plugs and with about 45k on them I don't see a need to replace them yet.

I looked at the NGK site and look for Iridium plugs for the Nomad. No luck - could not find them.

They are not listed for a Nomad, I tried to match up the correct heat range in the Iridium series and found that the closest match was one ranger colder which works just fine.
I found that the bike seems to start quicker as its takes less voltage to fire the plugs and they have a fine tip that resists getting dirty.

Not sure what "heat range" means. You don't have a part number by chance?

Good that I have my little notebook with me:

NGK - DPR7EIX - 9 is what I believe Ring has on his Nomad and it is available at Dennis Kirk.

I think the stock plugs are NGK - DPR6EA - 9???

Also NGK's notation of cold is different from that of other manufacturers.

I just checked the p/n for the plugs Im using NGK's DPR7EIX-9. The 7 is the heat range, the stock plug is a #6.
