spark plug socket

Hello all, i am trying to remove the spark plugs on a 2003 Nomad. The front one is close to a 19mm but the rear one i can't seem to find. Can some one tell me the size for both?

Should be 18mm for all. I changed mine out a while back and pretty sure it is the 18mm for all. Don't use the 19mm as it is too large and will damage the plug base when it slips.

You need an 18mm deep thin wall socket. Very close tolerances in the spark plug area and a socket that's too thick won't work. All 4 plugs are 18mm.

Thanks Scott, I thought it was 18mm. I bought mine at Sears and they work fine.

Hey guys, thanks very much. Will get right on that and get a 18mm. I need to put my baby to bed soon.

I use the stamped one in the toolkit, for the little bit that I remove the plugs. I couldn't find a thinwall in my toolbox that fit, all were to thick a sidewall.

I'm with Steve on this. The one in the tool kit works fine.

I have found the toolkit that came with the bike. I don't know how to remove the side covers. I don't want to break them. Any easy suggestions on removal of them?

The left side cover has a keyed lock, so insert the key, turn it, pull out slightly on the right hand side of the cover and slide the whole cover to the left.

The right side cover is secured with a phillips head screw at the lower right side. Remove the screw and the cover pulls right off.

What's with the design on the right side? I mean couldn't they have done this some other way?? At the very least made the screw a little longer so a guy/gal could at least grab the screw easier!! Taking it off isn't too bad for me, but getting the screw back in without dropping it is a P.I.A.. I guess maybe a magnet ended screw driver is the answer. I just thought it could have been thought out better. JMHO

If I remember correctly, it's an aluminum screw, so a magnet-tipped screw driver won't help you.

The plastic studs on the LH cover can break off if you don't remove it carefully. Gadgets sight has a fix for this if you do end up breaking them.

The correct fix is buy a new or used toolbox off ebay which is what I did. :-)

That sounds good. I haven't found the tool box yet. I have been told where it is. Just a matter of getting to it.
