Cobra fuel management/UPDATE! GOT A TFI!

Can the adjustable Cobra be used on a California emissions Nomad? Found no other info on the Cobra site other than California should buy the non-adjustable model. ???

I have a CA emissions Nomad, and I used the non-CA FI2000R on it. Of course, I don't live in the Golden State, so it wasn't a concern to me. If your question was "will a regular FI2000R work on a CA emissions bike?", then I'd say yes. Will it pass CA CAB standards? I have no clue.

Cobra fuel management/UPDATE! GOT A TFI!

KB I live in Mexifornia and I have a TFI on mine (Cobra like) and have no issue with it. If someday we have to pass a emissions test they all can be turned off in 1 minute. Pass test and then turn it back on. No worries.

Cobra makes one just for the CA models.

I read the info for the adjustable processor. Does not say anything about not working on a CA emissions bike. Almost states if you live in CA, then get the CA (non-adjustable) model. Looks like the adjustable is the ticket! Just hope the vendor I buy it from will ship to CA ;)

I will take a look at the TFI as well. They seem to be pretty much the same thing but different.
Thanks for all the responses!

You say "used". If you removed it and went to another system, which system and why?

Having just purchased a Cobra FI2000 I can tell you the vendor I used refused to ship to California. They do not care if you live here and buy from here but you must ship to another state. They claim they are monitored and face heavy fines if they break the rules.

I think Cj means use, and 'used' is a typo. The TFI is as good as Cobra's unit, or the other way around. Since there is no lamda sond sender there is no feed back making a PC III modual not the best choice for all. The PCIII of more for IT guys that like down loading maps and friggin around with maps.

The PC III can forget, as it is a intelligent chip set. The Cobra and TFI are stupid and can't forget, since they just fool the ECU.

V&H makes a modual with 35 settings of which you set 33 on a Nomad, and there is no book, or last I knew there was no book. A buyer was forced to call V&H techs.

I could never live that way. Recently some aftermarket I forget, has re-branded the TFI modual with a logo brand name and it is a little less money, but the very same thing. I just can't recall what the brand name is.

IMO if the only mod anyone ever did to a Nomad was the fuel mod it would be worth it. With an all other wise stock bike this one thing would be worth it.

You won't get extra power really for just this, but you will cool off the engine, reduce ping to naught, and that alone is well worth it.

To gain power other things must happen, like freer flowing exhaust and intake.

I find at speeds I use in NH USA I gained 10 mpgs per gallon while i got apx 10% more power.

In part the speeds one can ride in NH are slower than other states. There are just 2 interstates, one and 1/2 really. Both are North South. Oh yeah there is I -89 too but i almost never use most of it. I usually cut cross lots to get to it, and run out maybe 20 miles or so to be in VT where normally I get off.

So most riding is at or under 65mph for me. Ride sustained over that 65mph and the Nomad guzzels fuel.

BD is the one who figured this out for me.

Cobra fuel management/UPDATE! GOT A TFI!

Found a NEW TFI that a meanstreak owner at another MC forum was selling. Saved a C note and from what others here say is the fuel management device to get. Anyway, Thanks to all who gave their input. Will post how it works out.

Hey mac,

The re-branded TFI is Kurykyn Wild Things Fuel Injection Controller. West End Motorsports has it listed at $170. Here is the link for anyone interested...
