reserve gas

I'm new to the Nomad but love it. I was wondering if anyone knows how much gas is left in the tank when the light comes on. I've got a 2006 1600. All I know is it's got a 5.3 gallon tank. Any help will be appreciated.

Howdy, reddman. It seems to me that there was a thread not long ago about running til empty. You might want do a search for that. Some guys calculated how far they went after the light came on. If you can't find it, someone here will have an answer for you for sure. I've never been to that point so I'm not much help, sorry.

Reddman, as I recall, most people on the reserve light thread, said they usually put in about 4.3 gallons when the light came on and stayed on. Like Al said, I get nervous too when the light comes on.

Also like Al Strauss/Chainsaw, I am a Nam vet too with a Black 2007 Nomad. 3/506 Infantry 101st

If I remember what the manual says, you have approx. 30 miles left when your reserve light comes on. Probably a little less than a gallon.

I went 19 miles once with the light on, so I know it will go that far. I was getting pretty nervous by the time I got to a gas station.

I have coasted into the gas station before and still only put in 5 gallons so some of the fuel is useless. I think I ran about 30 miles before she died.

I'll chime in here.

It IS NOT MILEAGE it is amount of fuel left.

On my 2000 1500 FI I have .7 gallons left when the reserve light comes on steady on level ground.

I have gone as far as 29 miles and as little as 16 miles. How do I know this? I ran out both times. Mileage on this bike ranges from 25mpg to 41mpg depending upon speed, headwinds, and altitude.

Why do I mention level ground?
The sensor is affected by the angle of the fuel because it is not in the center of the tank.

It is my understanding that when the sensor comes on is adjustable. I know some riders that have over a gallon of fuel left when their reserve light illuminates. Consult the shop manual.

I'm still experimenting with my '08 Nomad. Right now I'm estimating it has about .5 gallons left when the light comes on. I plan to test it when I get back from this trip out west. Currently in Coos Bay Oregon.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm like ya'll, nervous about running out. We've got our first rode trip coming up Sept. 24th from South MS. to Reelfoot Lake in Northwest TN. Looking forward to the ride and hopefully catch some fish while we're there. Anyone want to come? Just a weekend trip & back to work on Tuesday the 30th. Maybe see ya'll on the rode. I'll be on Jade, my 06 Nomad and Bob will be on his 04 Road Star that's black with flames on it. Give us a shoot if you see us.
As always, keep it safe and on the road!!!!!!
