When I do this here in California I ride to the left side of the lane. I know that makes it harder for drivers to see me in their side view mirror but when I get into the merging section I move to the center of the lane so they can see me better. If there are no cars on my a$$ I will also slow down so cars can merge in if they want.

I do like the fact that the white lines are wide enough to use as an escape route if lane splitting in the car pool lane. I bet that is not allowed in Canada though.

She was not paying attention. Going too fast, had an open lane to her left. Sad.

She was not supposed to be travelling in the hov lane without a passenger, but the van is also not allowed to cross the double white line either. It looks pretty clear to me that the van just cut across without looking. Its a tragedy, that happened in the blink of an eye.

Just saw. Very sad. I'm all over my brakes when I see traffic piled up. We just never know. I must study and ask myself how this could have been prevented. Sorry for a great loss. Very sobering.
