DSL Wireless
I'm attempting to pick up the signal to my verizon DSL wireless Actiontec GT74WG modem with wireless capabilities. My laptop shows no signal is coming from the unit.
I'm not real sharp on figuring this out! How do I turn on the "broadcasting" wirless feature on my modem so I can then set a password so it will be secure and use my laptop wirelessly? All I can find online is go to configuation. Any gurus our there that can get me on the fast track to this?

Brad, If you can't figure it out, e-mail my son in law at mbascle@gmail.com or call him at
985 226-3475. He is manager at a cable installation facillity. He doesn't fool with DSL much but may be able to help.

Brad,
Is that one of the usb modem? If so I had the same problem. Here is what we had to do. Shut off all of the wireless receivers and also shut down all of the internet connections. Something is going on that those override the wireless modem.

Does your laptop have a wireless On/Off switch- it may physically be a small switch somewhere on the outside of the laptop. Check it is on.

The laptop is on. I can grab somone else's signal but sitting right next to my modem I get no signal from it. There is a function in the setup that turns it on. I'm just not smart enough to figure it out!!

Did the modem come from Verizon? If so, their support should be able to help you get the wireless function turned on.

In the URL box on your internet browser, type in 192.168.2.1 That should take you to your setup box for your modem. If a box pops up that asks for username/ password. leave username blank, and type in " admin " for password. you can set up a new username and/or password once you gain entry to your modem. if none of that works, unplug modem for two minutes to reset it. plug it back in. It should work. If it still doesn't work, punt, and call Verizon support. |
