Good scam sample

When you see a really nice bike for a weird low price, with hardly any description, no miles listed, no mention of title status, and especially details of specs not normal to the bike, its likely a scam. Such a nice bike for only $1117? I doubt it, or I should BUY it!

Found this locally on craigslist in Green Bay, as a Milwaukee listing:
https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/mcy...892387333.html

Pretty sure the VN1600 series never had any type of ABS. That only started on the VN1700 correct?

Did a Google search of this picture, and the exact same picture shows up on a ebay sale of a 2004 Nomad in Charlotte NC for $3200.

Good catch

It also says it is black in color

I sent a message to the bike owner on eBay.

Yeah, there was this idiot in Ark. that was selling a 1500 drifter for $1500, had like 25,000 miles. Came up with a load of crap that the bike was at a freight office, I had to call to come see it, yafs, yafa, yada....
I asked the dude you really wanna go that route?
About a month later, saw a ad down in Tyler, Tx. And later, another one in St. Louis.....
Gotta watch it out there.....
Before you buy things, check that the # on the title matches the # on the neck.....some of these folks will try and sell you a stolen bike....

When I was searching for a Vulcan, I found one on craigslist Green Bay, looked great, $1000!!, just to tempting not to contact them.
Contacted the seller, in Oklahoma (damn), bike was in Davenport Iowa (dammit) at her parents house, crated and ready to ship (uh-oh). "She" was selling it cheap cause her hubby was killed in the middle east in armed service (yeah, right). All I had to do was send the cash for sale through ebay, and the bike would ship with a 30 day right of refusal. (yeah right again, run RUN RUN!).

I did some searching, and found the exact same picture in multiple craigslist-large city ads for different weird prices, different contact info, differing info on the bike. Mistake I made was to give the "seller-scammer" my email, started to get all kinds of shit. Never again no matter how tempting. I bought my Vulcan through a reputable salvage bikes seller in Jordan MN.

That bike is a 1500. Definitely no factory premium stereo, heated seats and grips, ABS, or GPS.

Hmm,...is it the wheels that gives it away as a 1500? Of course to a scammer with no intent on accuracy, what does it matter? Yet these scammer idiots can fudge any fact they want, because all they want is to trick someone to contact them.

All these scammers really want is your email address, so they can sell it to whatever other scammers or internet businesses want email addresses.

The color scheme is from the 1500 era. The lack of a swooping flowing gas tank indicates 1500.

I see lots of the scam ads too. And if they're not a scam, they're at least phishing for your email address or phone number.

Look at the valve/head covers.

The 1600s have a kinda swoosh to hide the oil lines.

The 1500s are flat on the sides.

The passenger backrest gives it away, also.

The back rest, of course. It does stick out as being different between the two generations. I was not aware of the valve/head cover difference.

Funny, its obvious these scammers care nothing for accuracy on models, features, etc. Which is dumb really, because it really sets up the scammer to answer questions for which they have no knowledge. But that further emphasizes that all the scammers want is your email and phone numbers to further scam you.

Best action is to never reply to the ad. Too bad craigslist doesn't have a better system for people like us to show these ads as the scams they are and shut the scammer down.

There used to be a "report this ad" link in every ad which I was very diligent about using. For some reason the link is no more.
