at 47--- my 1st broken bone

Well...I knew it had to happen sooner or later.
Saturday night my daughters, boyfriends 5 year old and I was in the basement...he is my littel buddy and he sticks to me like glue.
Anyways, I have this make shift divider in the basement that keeps out dogs out of the office area.
Well he and I decided to go upstairs and well...
I lifted my right leg over the divider at the same time his little 1 feet high legs "tried" to go over as well.
In the process he moved the divider, my right foot got caught and nature took over, I tried to regain with the left foot but it was also caught...and there I go as gracefull as an elephant I turned to push him out of the way and lundged forward and before I could stop the fall with my hands my left rib cage feel directly on the corner of a pet carrier that was sitting around and BAM....I was in total pain...trying to catch my breath and cussing like a sailor.
I finally got up in Ouch level pain.
The next morning the wife took me to the hospital and sure enough I broke the #7 rib.
Just in time to go to work on Monday...my first major side job since I was layed off in December...
If I was still gainfully employed...I believe I would have used a few sick days...
Man I could never imagine the pain of a broken bone.
I know there are several others in the body that can hurt a LOT worse but jeepers this dag on thing is wippen my butt.
Anyways....tomorrow I am going to try and wrap it up so I can ride...I did say TRY...I miss my Nomad :(

That sucks, but I been there. Don't know which way to count ribs, so no idea what 7 is. Try to explain that.

Any time I get a chest x ray the guys who ever he is start laffin when they get the pics up, as my ribs loook like a map to lost treasure.

That stuff shows on x rays forever.
At this point the score is 8 left side 2 inches from the spine, done in a bad bad bad crash in 79 taking out other bones and my speen.

Then 3 weeks out of the hospital or around 30 days I fell down a cellar stairs and broke 5 on the right, about 1/2 way around.

Next in SD on Pine Ridge in 05 we crashed and i broke the botton 3 on the right.

Next last year I fell with a new kind of seat for the bob cat on the bob cat, and that seat tips the scales at 80 pounds.

Next 6 weeks later my boss had me be a counter weight and by accident backed me into the barn with the bob cat.

I was not a happy camper, and stomped off to sulk for the rest of the day.

Don't do what I do.... I don't quit anything, but I did make a wide leather belt. If you don't simer down you will make the healing take lots longer. That will make you suffer lots longer.

I an expert at suffering now.

That 05 crash, we had packed up the apt and rode .... There was no place to fly back to, so we headed west as planned in 30 days which the dealer used up fixing the bike WRONG.

You better not ride for 30 days, or not much, and if getting the wind blown out of your sails means anything to you, assuming you are at least a little smatter than I am, you won't.

Well you probably will and then will decide you won't. And if you do Welcome to the Neandertal Knuckel Draggers, but you can only have 2nd prize, 1st is mine all mine...

BTW thart last rib, it floats now. it will never heal and stick back to where it was. I guess if i get hungery i can slit it out and have something personal to knaw.

Welcome to the club. Just don't breath, laugh, sneeze, cough, hicup or burp and you will be okay. One sneeze starts the process over again.

Knock on wood, at 46 no broken bones that I know of, yet! Just cursed with weak knee and shoulder joints that have given me problems over the years. Jamie

Sorry to hear of your broken rib. I can imagine that is pretty painful. Never had a broken rib that I know of.

I broke my nose in 1961 when I was 14 but never even knew it until I had my over 40 physical in the Army.

Broke my left ankle last April when I dropped the Nomad on my left leg. It still bothers me now sometimes. All in all I'm doing pretty good though.

Well I couldn't ket you have all the fun. So today while heatin n' beatin' rusted froze solid parts off a industrial 1 ton belt sander i decided to chatter gun my bad thumb, right between the 2 joints on the hand part. Ouch... I dislocated that last year around this time and it hasn't healed well since and this took the cake. Good thing i know how to talk like a sailor....

How you doin any way, powder puff?

Oh you're in for a real treat. I broke a couple of ribs playing hockey when I was 18 and no matter what you do, it HURTS!

Take it easy and get better. Your Nomad will be there, waiting for you.

Clayton....a broken rib is pure misery for several weeks on a young man and possibly several months for guys my age. I broke two ribs on my left side at age 27. I hurt for a couple of months after. As my luck runs, it happened in the winter and I caught a serious chest cold a week later. I had to bear hug a pillow to be able to cough without feeling like a mule kicked me. The cold lasted for a couple of weeks and there were times I didn't care if I lived or died. That's how bad the pain was. Take care of yourself and whatever you do.....Don't come down with a cold!!!

I've broken various bones. To me, ribs are the worst. All the other bones can be immobilized, but ribs? They keep moving.

Broken bones are a certain kind of pain that is different from any other pain. You'll recognize when you break a bone from here on out probably.

As long as we are all recounting old war wounds, I think I'll have you all beat, even Macmac.

Clavicle 3, and I think they are the worst.

Back 3

Ribs 4-5

Wrist

Arm

Leg

Knee cap

Oh for pity sake! The man needs manly medical advice, not coddling. SO:

Clayton, RUB IT. Now get on with life.

You are welcome.

(Yes, I have broken bones. So Seriously, I hope you heal quickly. Painlessly is out of the question. Hang in there. At least it isn't the heart of the riding season.)
