Rear Drive Oil Change

Never seen Belray at any of the parts stores around here. Is it a Canadian product?

That's right. Some bikes use a gear oil in the tranny not shared with engine oil, and then that oil would be no good for that type of clutch submersed nin gear oil. I am not sure what bikes are made that way either.

I have a 81 yammi xs 850 sh and it has a wet clutch in engine oil and the tranny and rear finals run gear oil in each of the cases. The tanny oil is not shared with anything, nor is the final or engine each has it's own case for it's own oil.

So yeah you're fine, since the gear oil should never get anywhere near the clutch.

merri1 No it isn't possible a bit, since the 17 has no final drive gears at all. The 17 is nothing like the 15 or 16.

IMO straight up and full is too much. On the side stand or that on a 2x4 is plenty high enough. They goofed. it happens.

I bet hot that oil raises up too high and it's hot. The oil expands and creates a over full condition when done straight up.

The area is small and it has to be to take a so called 6.2 oz of oil, and i see this same thing in my antique oil lamps. When I goof and over fill then light them pretty soon the trays are filling with split oil, running down the lamps, and they only hold 1 qt cold and do not heat close to what final gears get.
That does it.....next time I change my final drive oil I'm going to lay the bike down on its right crash bars after draining. That will make it much easier to fill and I know I'll have enough oil in there.

Mitch, this may not be the best time to strike oil down your way. I understand y'all got so much it is just gloating around.
Thanks for your time

You're right Sonny. I went down to Grand Isle and skimmed a 55 gallon drum of the stuff. That should take care of the oil changes for all of my stuff for quite a while.
