We are moving.
Hello all NE Nomad riders.
After 43 years in south Florida, the wife, my son and I are planning to move to Maine. Yes, we are heading north. there are realitives in Millanocket Maine (sp?) and we are looking for a large parcel within 20 - 40 miles of Bangor. We are all outdoors people and I know the winters are different. My wife is from CT so she is used to it. But I feel I will love it. It has all the things I love to do. Fishing, big garden on my property, live in the woods with quiet time, and escaping this madhouse. South Florida has made some massive changes and I feel it is not for the better. It is a shame how this turned out, but we have had enough. I should be able to retire early in a few years but we are trying to locate a property soon as my son wants to go up now. I will keep an eye on this forum and chime in soon. Be careful up there. Don & Donna.

And I thought you were going to settle in Tennessee. Good luck with the move. Winters can be brutal in that part of the country. I lived for three years at Newport, RI over a year at Brooklyn, NY and over three years at Fort Meade, MD. If you like snow and lots of cold weather then you are headed in the right direction. It will cut down on your riding time considerably.

You were correct. We were going to Tennessee. But that 2 acre parcel is now for sale. We know the Nomad will get less time, but will probably get snowmobiles for the winters. Yes I am very aware of the winters from the realitives in Maine. They say the same thing; prepare for the worst and you will be fine.
I know the riding season is short; but the heat down here shortens my time too. My wife and I just can't deal with this heat anymore.

If a Yankee moves south and stays they are called A Damn Yankee. So if a boy from the south moves north and stays do they call them a Damn Southerner?

Good one ANR!!! the wife is from CT and I have been down here since I was 8. Don't know what to label myself with.
We are planning to leave in a few years but will try to secure the property and a cabin pretty soon.

Not quite sure about Maine or New Hampster, but in Vermont you would be a 'Flat Lander'.
Bangor Maine, I would think you would get a lot of use out of 4 wheelers. Take a look at Maineland Properties.

Yeah, moving north will sure cut down on your riding time.
I have a 2007 and I have only been able to put 69,347 miles on it between winters.

Don, it is not all that bad around Bangor. I live about two hours away to the northeast of Bangor near Woodstock, NB. The last couple of riding seasons, I was biking by Easter and rode up until mid November. We had lots of snow but mostly in January and February. I think you will enjoy being back up this way. Good luck on your move.

Hey all. we were in Bangor, Millinocket, Belfast and Bucksport just a few weeks ago. Was very nice and the weather (20s at night and high 30s day) were not an issue.
Scenery was fantastic and I am first agree; all the people we met were down to earth people. Very refreshing from the changes going on down here. It truly is a special place and we are looking forward to re-locating there. We will go back in January. I am looking forward to it. Thanks to all who replied and maybe we will meet up soon. Don & Donna. |
