Sad Day for Schoeney
I sold my 2003 Nomad today. It was hard seeing her drive away.
She has been a great bike and still in great shape. I told Kris she was like an old pair of favorite jeans. Just felt good. A very trusty steed. Never hesitated to ride anywhere or any distance. Sold her to a nice younger guy from the Seattle area. He was very tall (maybe 6'6") so he should like the riding position and comfort. His Dad has a 2003 Classic so they were both familiar with the great attributes of the bike. Especially the reliability and low maintenance. I suspect he will be joining the site at some time. I encouraged him to join. So you guys behave! So the question now is....what do I buy? I can see a lighter bike in my future or maybe one that when stopped my leg is straighter. I have had nothing but problems with my most recent left knee surgery (a very minor one....only torn meniscus.. but more problems than the right knee that has 2 screws in it...no issues 16 years later). I can run 10 miles in a straight line but twisting and lateral movement just play havoc on the left knee especially when under load, like when riding 2 up and stopped or stopping while in a turn. Haven't dropped the bike but had a couple wobbly moments. It will be tough to live up to the enjoyment I have had with my Nomad. But I suspect I gave her a good home. That was important to me.

sorry to hear this Greg. I hope you can find something that works for you.
Were you planning on attending the National?

Greg...that is always a bittersweet moment for sure, but you did give it a good home...and it was good to you in return, as it will be for the new owner.
So the big question is...when is that new Victory rolling into the driveway....!

Schoeney, I don't know what to say? So, there's no bike in your garage now? You must've ordered an ST1300, I think that's what's in your heart, you gotta spill the bins, man. Anyways, good luck with your next bike. |

Ricky, I had not committed to going but was hoping to be a last minute add. Just too early for me to commit.

No bike in bay #3 for the last 2 hours. Weird. St1300 is on the short list. Good memory.

How about a Vulcan 900? I love my Nomad, but there are times when I really miss the lighter weight of the 9. Stick a Mustang seat and a good set of bags on there and you'll feel right at home.
50 MPG is nice too.

Craigslist is popping around here. There should be some good opportunities to ride lots of different bikes so hopefully you can find something that works for you. Sounds like you need something light with a low center of gravity (or something that has no chance of tipping over - spyder).

I know you talked about a K1600, but a boxer is a lot lighter than any of the bikes you probably have on your short list. All are well under 600lbs. The st is over 700lbs...But it's a good bike. The only complaint I've heard if I can call it that is it's appliance like, but the same is said of the Goldwing. All I can say is test ride, test ride, test ride.

The main criteria is it needs to work for the knee, comfort, reliability, and of course the wallet. I don't have a cushy government job like Netnorske. I have to actually work for a living! There won't be any $25k bikes in my garage anytime soon.
