Voyager - Vaquero windshields

Curiosity is killing me as I look at the Kawasaki.com accessory windshields.

There is a 12" Windshield for Voyager ($75), and a 12" Windshield KIT for Vaquero ($129).

The Voyager shield has instructions that very simply read, (paraphrased), "take off the old windshield and put on the new one the same way."

However, the site says if you want to put that shield on a Vaquero, you will need these additional parts, and lists them. So I inspect the Vaquero KIT and it doesn't have installation instructions to compare to.

When I called Kawasaki sales in CA, I was assured the Voyager and Vaquero fairings are identical. So I explained my findings and my curiosity as to the $54 price difference when the individual parts (even if they ARE needed) could be bought separately for a combined $32.

Ultimately, my plan has always been to buy an intermediate sized, tinted shield from Cee Baileys, but I really want to know if I need these extra parts.
The guy I talked to at Kaw. is going to have an accessory guy get back with me next week. I'll let you know what I find out.

Buy the Vaquero w/s kit. It gives you the 12" shield, chrome base trim like on the Voyager, rubber damper and new silver bolts. You will need all of that for a proper installation.

But I don't want chrome trim. So I'm still not convinced.

BTW, FYI, I stopped at an HD speed shop today to see if the older 5-bolt Harley screens had the same bolt pattern, and not surprisingly, they do not.

The chrome strip is for support. If you notice the stock short shield has a much thicker base where it attaches to the fairing. The taller shields are not as thick at the base, thus requiring more support. Without the chrome strip, the taller shield may possibly crack around the bolt holes....your results may vary :)

The Vaquero is a great bike. I haven't parked it anywhere yet that 2-3 people don't come up and ask what model it is, the their jaw drops when they see it's a Kawasaki.

Don'tcha just love it when folks can't believe it ain't a HD? When folks talk to me (an American living in Germany) and ask why I don't own a HD, I tell them, my bike was less expensive and a better engineered bike. Still, there are a lot more HDs on the roads here than Nomads.

How do the numbers of HD compare to japanese cruisers?

Just like talking to the Rainbow Vacuum cleaner salesman, I never utter that it's too expensive. That topic is too subjective and leads to a frustrating conversation.

On my choice of bike, I stick to the facts of Style, Water cooled, and Uniqueness, how I HATE to blindly follow any crowd. (I used to brag about the almost maintenance-free drive shaft . . . ::)) Afterall, that's why they approached my bike in the first place, it caught their eye as something different.

When most people go one way, I see it as a challenge to go another. It normally pays off in satisfaction.
I never did this on purpose, but at some point I recognized the trend.

My company issues us cars, but we get some choices. Most my colleagues ordered the Malibu, so I ordered a Subaru. I don't own anything MAC/Apple. And I tease my wife that the same reason probably lead me to marry her, a Ukrainian national, instead of an American.
